At the ceremony held at MGIMO, the honorary doctorate certificate was presented to Hakan Fidan by the university's rector, Anatoliy Torkunov. Many diplomats, academics, and students attended the ceremony.

Among the alumni of MGIMO, which is regarded as one of Russia's most prestigious diplomacy schools, are names such as Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The university's honorary doctorate title had previously been awarded to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and many other state leaders.

In his speech, Fidan highlighted the strategic importance of relations between Turkey and Russia, stating that the two countries play a significant role in maintaining regional stability.
