BABACAN'S REACTION TO TRUSTEESHIP AND DETENTIONS
Ali Babacan, Chairman of the DEVA Party, criticized the economic management and inflation-fighting methods in his speech at the New Path Party's group meeting in the Turkish Grand National Assembly.
Commenting on the appointment of regulatory trustees for 13 companies operating in the white meat sector, Babacan argued that the government is trying to intervene in markets to prevent price increases.
"INFLATION CANNOT BE REDUCED BY INSTRUCTION"
Claiming that the government advised the sector not to raise prices before Ramadan, Babacan said that export restrictions and judicial processes were then introduced.
Babacan stated, "An unprecedented event occurred in Turkey. The managers and owners of a sector were detained, and trustees were appointed. This cannot be the way to reduce inflation."
"YOU UNDERMINE TRUST"
Noting that allegations of competition violations should be examined within the framework of existing legislation, Babacan criticized the classification of price issues as organized crime.
"If you detain and arrest people who have invested in a sector for years, you undermine trust," Babacan said, arguing that this approach would harm the investment environment.
"THE GOVERNMENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR INFLATION"
Stating that inflation cannot be reduced without increasing investment and production, Babacan said, "You cannot reduce inflation with police measures, detentions, and trustees. If production decreases, a larger wave of inflation follows. The culprit and responsible for inflation in this country is the government itself."
CALL FOR PAID TEACHERS
In his speech, Babacan also addressed the working conditions of paid teachers, noting that teachers who have worked for years cannot benefit from pension rights.
Expressing the need to improve the salaries of paid teachers and secure their pension rights, Babacan said the current practice constitutes a "rights violation."
