DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları visited Selahattin Demirtaş, who is detained in Edirne F-Type Prison. Hatimoğulları stated that Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ are unjustly detained and said that the ECHR rulings must be implemented.
Tülay Hatimoğulları, Co-Chair of the DEM Party, visited former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who is being held in detention at the Edirne F-Type High-Security Closed Penal Institution.
"THERE ARE ECHR RULINGS FOR DEMİRTAŞ AND YÜKSEKDAĞ"
Following the visit, DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları held a press statement together with EMEP Co-Chair Seyit Aslan and DEM Party Istanbul MP Kezban Konukçu. Noting that Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ are being held in detention unjustly and must be released, Hatimoğulları said, "In particular, there are rulings by the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights for Mr. Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ. Despite Türkiye's objections, these objections were rejected by the European Court of Human Rights and the same ruling was issued again. This ruling was not issued because the European Court of Human Rights loves Selahattin and Figen or because it loves our detained friends in Kobani. It is a ruling that recognizes that the legal prosecution of our friends was wrong. In other words, it is a legal ruling, the ECHR's ruling. And Türkiye, as a country party to the European Convention on Human Rights, has a duty and responsibility to implement the ECHR's rulings. This duty and responsibility is a legal responsibility," she said.
"IT WAS AN EXTREMELY PRODUCTIVE MEETING"
Stating that Demirtaş continues his work for the peace and democratization process, Hatimoğulları said, "Believe me, dear Selahattin Demirtaş stands very lively and vigorous with his mind and stance. He said, 'Convey my greetings and love to all people outside who ask about me. Convey my greetings and love to all the peoples of Türkiye.'"
Noting that the meeting with Selahattin Demirtaş was productive, Hatimoğulları said, "As always, President Selahattin, with his very lively and highly creative ideas, shared his ideas with us when we visited him together with our delegation today, and we evaluated the process together. He shared his views and suggestions with us, and it was an extremely productive meeting."
Tülay Hatimoğulları stated that their own struggle for the peace process would also continue, and said, "In order to ensure the success of the peace and democratic society process that began 2 years ago, both our friends in prison and we, with our work, are continuing their struggle with all their strength. And as people outside, our struggle will continue to build a peace worthy of this struggle that has been waged over a long period in history and a democratic Türkiye that all the peoples of Türkiye long for."
