A citizen named Ertan Ö., who had climbed the National Ascension Monument a day ago and poured gasoline on himself in Antalya, this time climbed the historic city walls. The intoxicated man, attempting suicide, listened to music with headphones and danced. When he got hungry, Ertan Ö., who couldn't refuse the chief inspector's soup offer, was taken to the police station after drinking his soup.
Yesterday at around 12:00, tense moments occurred again on the walls located in the upper part of the historic Kaleiçi district in Antalya's Muratpaşa district.
HE CLIMBED THE HISTORIC WALLS AND ATTEMPTED SUICIDE
A person named Ertan Ö. (48) climbed the historic walls and drank the alcohol and soda he brought with him. Police, fire, and medical teams were dispatched to the scene upon reports from bystanders. Police cordoned off the area and began efforts to persuade the individual.
Ertan Ö., who consumed alcohol and listened to music with headphones while dancing, ignored persuasion attempts. Local residents watched his actions with interest.
CHIEF INSPECTOR PERSUADED HIM WITH "SOUP"
The individual, who occasionally stood up and made dangerous moves, kept the teams on edge for 6 hours. Chief Inspector Zahit Şahinalp, approaching with a fire truck ladder, tried to persuade him to abandon the suicide attempt and come down.
Feeling hungry, Ertan Ö. was convinced after being given soup brought from a nearby shop; he was placed in a basket by the chief inspector and lowered to a safe area. After being checked by medical teams and drinking his soup, Ertan Ö. was taken to the police station.
HE HAD ALSO CLIMBED THE MONUMENT THE PREVIOUS DAY
It was learned that the individual had also climbed the National Ascension Monument in Cumhuriyet Square the previous day. On the monument, he again wore headphones and danced, pouring a jerry can of gasoline over his head and staging a protest for 2 hours.
