In Tekirdağ, a citizen closed a street with barbed wire, claiming it had belonged to him for 42 years. Neighbors who noticed the situation informed the police and municipal authorities. The municipal officials had the barbed wire removed and reopened the street to traffic. Ayla Güven, who claims to be the landowner, stated that they learned a year and a half ago that the title deed belonged to them and that they were waiting for a settlement with the municipality.

An interesting land dispute occurred in Tekirdağ. A citizen closed a street, which he claimed to be his for 42 years, by erecting a barbed wire fence.

Citizens who saw that the street entrance was closed with a barbed wire fence, blocking pedestrian and vehicle traffic, reported the situation to the police and the municipality. Later, municipal officials met with the citizen named Ayla Güven, who closed the street, and had the barbed wire removed. The street was closed for about 1 hour.

It was stated that the situation would be discussed in the Municipal Council and that a decision for expropriation would be made if necessary.

Expressing that they learned the title deed belonged to them a year and a half ago, Güven said, "We learned it recently, but part of the street has been ours since 1982. We are waiting for a settlement with the municipality."

Mehmet Sabancı, a resident of Soysal Street, said he could not make sense of the street being closed with a barbed wire fence. Reacting to the situation, Sabancı said, "The guys came and started erecting the poles. An hour later, they put up the barbed wire. I live 20 meters away. I was surprised, when they put the pole, I thought 'what is happening?' Can a street be closed? I thought they were going to remove the market. I didn't know this place had an owner." he said.
