VEHICLES PILED ON TOP OF EACH OTHER IN FLOODWATERS
Heavy rain that affected Istanbul in recent days negatively impacted daily life. In Sarıyer's Ayazağa Neighborhood, water had flooded many businesses. As vehicles piled on top of each other and drifted with the flood, some vehicles were also stranded in the water.
New footage of the disaster has emerged. In the footage, vehicles were seen drifting and piling on top of each other in the floodwaters. It included moments when the citizen was swept away while trying to save his vehicle.
HE WAITED ON TOP OF THE COAL SHED FOR 1.5 HOURS
Murat Bayraktar, the citizen who clung to his vehicle to save his car, said, "It is beyond description; it was a very bad thing to experience. When that water came, at first we said let's pull the vehicle at least so it doesn't go into the water, thinking it would come a little. The water came suddenly; I saw it was going to take me too, so I threw myself onto the upper hood of the car. I held on from there and came as far as the base of the pole. From here, at the base of the pole, I am trying to hold the car; if I let go, it will take me away. It pulls and throws me back like this. I barely held onto the pole and struggled quite a bit. After that, there was this distance in between left. From there, below, I then tried to throw myself; there is a thick cable. I held onto the thick cable and came like this, climbed toward here. There is a coal shed behind there; I stayed on top of the coal shed for 1, 1.5 hours. Phones don't have signal anyway. I am in water up to my throat. After that, I stayed on top of that coal for 1, 1.5 hours. In the following process, because the vehicles here pulled out completely, I found a plank there. I extended it over the cars and barely threw myself across from there," he said.
