Osman Turan, a tradesman with 8 apartments and 8 shops in Antakya, Hatay, lost all his assets in the earthquake on February 6. After the earthquake, Turan, who migrated to Bilecik, where he is living as a tenant, stated that he is continuing his life thanks to the support of the government and his children.
"I LOST ALL MY PROPERTY AND ASSETS"
Earthquake victim Osman Turan said, "I have been working since I was 6 years old. I was born into tradesmanship, grew up in it, and became a prominent tradesman, but in the earthquake on February 6, I lost all my property and assets. I am not complaining at all; God gave, God took. I have nothing left; I have never been a tenant in my life. Thank God, I am now living as a tenant in Bilecik. May God bless my children. They pay my rent. I am managing on my own. Thank God our government provides housing rent," he said.
"IT HIT US FROM ONE WALL TO ANOTHER"
Describing the disaster of the century and how his family was rescued from the rubble, Turan stated: "That day, I woke up for the morning prayer and performed ablution. Then the earthquake started. There is at least ten meters between my wife and me. At that moment, my wife said, 'Give me your hand,' and I said, 'How can I give it? I can't come to you.' Because the shaking was so intense; it hit us from one wall to another. Thank God we got out of there. I had quite a tear on my shoulder. We forgot our pain and immediately got into the car and headed to the children's house. There is about a five-kilometer distance between us and our children, but I don't even remember how I got there. We arrived there in two minutes; under the apartment, there is our shop, the market has collapsed. The children's house is in a collapsed state on top of the market.
"MY CHILDREN WERE TRAPPED UNDER THE RUBBLE FOR 5-6 HOURS"
The four-story building, where I had four apartments and four shops, is all gone. My children were trapped under the rubble for 5-6 hours. While my sons-in-law were trying to pull my daughter out with their arms, her arm got dislocated. We were waiting for the fire department to come, but unfortunately, they couldn't make it; we rescued them with our own means.
"OUR SORROW IS ENOUGH FOR US"
All the roads from Adana were in chaos, transportation was closed. Everyone was in a panic at that moment. Our sorrow is enough for us. Now my children have posted a photo on social media, and I was very saddened to see it. They are my dear ones, may God grant us all patience. May their place be paradise, inshallah."
