Galatasaray's experienced goalkeeper Günay Güvenç received a red card during the halftime of the match against Alanyaspor. Protesting the card he received, Güvenç stated, "I did not curse in the way that was claimed to the referee. If I had done such a thing, I would stand tall and admit it. I am not someone who does something and then runs away. The referee's report cannot include such a thing. They shouldn't make up such things. This is a violation of the rights of the club."
The Super Lig giant Galatasaray's goalkeeper Günay Güvenç received a red card during the halftime of the match against Alanyaspor, which they won 2-1. The experienced goalkeeper made a statement regarding the incident.
GÜNAY RECEIVED A RED CARD
In the final moments of the first half, Galatasaray was expecting a penalty. After the halftime whistle, the technical team and players of the yellow-red team protested regarding the situation. It was reported that referee Yasin Kol showed a red card to Günay Güvenç as the teams were heading to the locker room.
With Günay's expulsion, there were no backup goalkeepers left on the bench for the yellow-red team. Galatasaray faced the risk of being without a goalkeeper if their goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, who received a yellow card in the 57th minute, got injured or sent off.
"THIS IS A MATTER OF RIGHTS"
Günay Güvenç spoke to Beyaz TV about the incident. The 33-year-old goalkeeper stated, "The incident happened only through my dialogue with Mevlüthan Abi. There was nothing about refereeing. How can they make such a ridiculous accusation? Information reached the referee that I and Mevlüthan Abi were cursing at each other. That never happened. Mevlüthan Abi says the same. I did not curse in the manner that was reported to the referee. If I had done such a thing, I would stand tall and admit it. I am not someone who would do something and run away. Such a thing cannot be written in the referee's report. They should not make up such things. This is a matter of rights," he expressed.
