Emre Değirmenci (40), who works in the private sector in Trabzon, married Dalel Bouzaıne (33), a Tunisian national, in 2022 through a friend. In the fifth month of their marriage, Bouzaıne went to her hometown, saying, "I will go to my brother's wedding," and disappeared. Değirmenci, who realized that his wife had left with the gold jewelry given at the wedding, could not establish contact with her family. The man, who applied to the court for divorce, has been unable to get divorced for two years as he did not receive any response to the notifications sent abroad.

"I REALIZED THE GOLD WAS GONE"

Değirmenci stated that the continuation of the marriage officially has negatively affected him psychologically, saying, "We met and liked each other in 2022. After 1.5 months, we went to Tunisia with my mother. We had a henna night there and asked for her from her family. Then we came to Trabzon, had a wedding ceremony, and then a wedding celebration. Five months later, she said she was going to her hometown for her brother's wedding and left. After some time passed, our contact was cut off. I realized the gold was gone. When the gold was gone, I understood that I had been deceived. We applied to the court for divorce. However, it has been two years. We have not been able to get divorced due to some legal procedures." he said.

"LIVING WITH A MARRIAGE IS HARD"

Değirmenci explained that during the lawsuit process, notifications are sent for foreign marriages, but the court does not proceed unless the other country responds to the notification, saying, "Thus, the divorce does not happen. In this situation, there are even those who have been waiting for 15 years. I have learned that there are victims like me around me. Life goes on after all. Living with a marriage is hard. If you want to marry someone, being married is a problem, and if you have assets, that is also a problem. Ultimately, when you die, it goes to the other party, and you appear to be married to them." he spoke.

"HIS MOTHER ASKED FOR 3 THOUSAND DOLLARS"

Emre Değirmenci, who stated that he suffered material and moral damage, said, "Of course, I had psychological troubles. The process is difficult. We went there too, while we were about to file a complaint, we were almost in a guilty position. We had contact with the family. His mother said, 'This matter is over.' She asked for 3 thousand dollars. We said, 'What’s done is done, let’s give it, let’s get rid of it,' but after a while, her family stopped answering the phone." he stated.

"I HAVE BEEN WAITING HELPLESSLY FOR TWO YEARS"

Değirmenci said, "I have also been waiting helplessly for two years. This marriage has been a hindrance for me. Life goes on. I want to get married and start a family. But I cannot look ahead because I cannot get divorced. I ask the authorities to intervene in this process for the sake of God, to take action on this situation." he expressed.
