A tragic event that occurred in 2022 on one of the busiest streets of Las Vegas deeply shocked tourists and locals. 34-year-old Guatemalan Yoni Barrios caused the deaths of two people in an unplanned attack carried out in broad daylight. The incident, which began near the Wynn Hotel, resulted in the deaths of 30-year-old Maris DiGiovanni and 47-year-old Brent Hallett, who were performance artists in furry costumes posing for tourists. The attacker also injured six others. Security camera footage shows Barrios, who initially wanted to take photos with the performers, suddenly becoming aggressive, believing they were laughing at his outfit. The attacker stabbed DiGiovanni in the heart and then ran down the street, randomly attacking people. Hallett died from a stab wound to the back. The police apprehended the attacker at the Venetian Expo convention center and neutralized him. During the interrogation, Barrios stated that he was trying to sell knives to get home and that he could not control his anger. Barrios, who is being tried on charges of terrorism and murder, has been held in a psychiatric center for the past two years due to mental health issues. If found guilty, he could face the death penalty. DiGiovanni's loved ones described her as "a loving daughter who lived life to the fullest, a wonderful sister, and a loyal wife."
