Kevin Kampl, the former Leipzig midfielder, retired from football after losing his brother and father within seven months. The 35-year-old Slovenian has returned to the land on a farm he established in the Balearic Islands, living a quiet, secluded life with his family.
After wearing the Bundesliga team RB Leipzig jersey for eight and a half seasons and becoming one of the club's iconic figures with 283 appearances, 35-year-old Slovenian midfielder Kevin Kampl, following major family losses, put football on the back burner and built a completely different and peaceful life for himself.
RADICAL DECISION AFTER OVERWHELMING GRIEF
Kampl, shaken by the sudden death of his 51-year-old brother Seki in October 2025, mutually terminated his contract with club RB Leipzig in January and returned to his hometown of Solingen. However, the veteran footballer's pain did not end there; he also lost his father in the following months. Experiencing the weight of losing both his brother and father within seven months, the seasoned player expressed his feelings with the words, "This year has been terrible; there is no other word to describe it."
FROM PITCH GRASS TO FARM SOIL
After this difficult period, Kampl completely distanced himself from the green fields and settled with his family on a traditional, small farm on Spain's Balearic Islands. Stating that he finds peace and tranquility in working the soil, the Slovenian footballer said, "The peace and quiet of Mallorca are doing us all a lot of good right now. On our farm, we grow melons, watermelons, tomatoes, onions, peppers, and many other products. Everything grows incredibly fast. Plus, our own olive oil is really delicious."
