On Father's Day in Avcılar, neighbors reported the groaning sounds of a 70-year-old man to health, police, and fire teams. It was understood that he had left the house two hours earlier, and his son Burak A., who was reached by phone, reacted to the teams that came to help his father. Burak A., who arrived at the scene with the help of the teams, shouted at his father through the window, "Don't disturb anyone inside this house. I'm leaving you to die."
On June 15, Father's Day, a heartbreaking incident occurred in the Gümüşpala neighborhood of the Avcılar district in Istanbul during the evening hours. Neighbors sprang into action upon hearing the moans of 70-year-old Mehmet Hulusi A., who lived with his son on the ground floor of the building. Police, fire brigade, and medical teams arrived at the scene following the report. The teams first checked Mehmet Hulusi A., who was lying on the bed by the window in the ground floor apartment.
HE REACTED TO THE TEAMS THAT CAME TO HELP HIS FATHER
The teams asked the elderly man, who was found unable to get out of bed, to call his son. Mehmet Hulusi A. spoke with his son on his mobile phone for a while. Later, a firefighter took the phone from the elderly man with the help of a device and faced the reactions of the elderly man's son, Burak A.
"CAN WE PLACE MY FATHER SOMEWHERE?"
Burak A. harshly confronted the firefighter he spoke to on the phone, saying, "There is no situation that requires the fire department or ambulance. I was with him 2 hours ago, I bathed him, changed his diaper, I did everything. Who called the fire department?" The firefighter explained the situation to Burak A., saying, "Sir, your father is moaning, shouting, and all your neighbors are worried. Your neighbors have not done anything wrong. The sound is coming here, all your neighbors are here, and the police are here." Burak A., who stated that his father was diabetic, also spoke with the medical team for a while, asking, "We have reached a point where we can no longer take care of him. Can we place him somewhere? What does it mean for me to come there?"
THE TEAMS CAME TO THE SCENE WITH DIFFICULTY
Later, the police officer who took the phone spoke to Burak A., saying, "You are his son, do not escalate the situation. Three institutions have come here. They are concerned about your father's health. Your neighbors called because they were worried about your father's life." In response, the elderly man's son, Burak A., retorted to the police officer, "Sir, please do not speak without knowing. Okay, I am coming there, hang up now."
HE ARGUED WITH BOTH THE TEAMS AND THE NEIGHBORS
Burak A., who came to the street, continued to argue with the teams waiting in front of the apartment. He also argued with a neighbor, shouting, "I cleaned him up for Father's Day. Are you giving me advice?" After the neighbor woman said, "Give me your phone number so we can call you," Burak A. became even angrier and replied, "If you can say these things to me about my father, why don't you say, 'You have a phone, call your son'?" The woman, who was a neighbor of the family, responded to the elderly man's son, saying, "You have no right to shout at me." Burak A. then told the neighbor he was arguing with, "Okay, I apologize to you now."
"I AM LEAVING YOU TO DIE"
After the argument, Burak A. shouted insults at his father, who he called from the window, saying, "Do not disturb anyone in this house. Who is not answering the phone? You have become a strange creature. I am leaving you here to die now." Burak A., who did not enter the apartment, then left the street with those accompanying him. The medical, police, and fire teams that arrived at the scene upon the report also left the scene without intervening with the elderly man. It was learned that Mehmet Hulusi A. was diabetic.
