In Ankara, gym operator Fatih Oral was shot and killed by Fatih Satılmış for refusing to pay protection money in front of his 3-year-old child. Security camera footage from the incident revealed that the attacker went there with the intent to kill.
On June 12, in the Keklik Pınarı neighborhood of Çankaya district, it is alleged that Fatih Satılmış threatened Fatih Oral, who refused to pay protection money, and shot up the gym. Satılmış then entered the gym wearing a motorcycle helmet to avoid being recognized and shot Fatih Oral in front of his 3-year-old son. Oral returned fire with a gun he had with him but was shot and fell to the ground. Oral died in the hospital where he was taken. After the incident, Fatih Satılmış, who was taken into custody, was arrested by the court he was brought before.
While the investigation into the matter continues, security camera footage of the incident was added to the case file. The footage shows Fatih Satılmış entering with a helmet on, firing at Fatih Oral with two guns in front of his child, while Oral tried to protect both himself and his child with one hand and attempted to return fire with the other, during which he was shot and fell to the ground.
"IT IS CLEAR THAT HE WENT THERE WITH THE INTENT TO KILL"
Fatih Oral's family's lawyer, Sait Bingöl, stated that the claim that the attacker went to his workplace to talk and that the other party fired at him is not true, saying, "As can be understood from the footage, the attacker did not go to the scene to meet in any way, nor was there any financial relationship between him and the person he killed. It is clear that what has been described is not true, and as reflected in the case file, the attacker went to the scene with the intent to kill. The victim was attacked despite having his 3-year-old child with him. There is no aspect of the defendant's actions that can be justified in any way. It is evident that the defendant made this statement to benefit from the provocation provisions. We will continue our legal struggle to ensure that the attacker receives the heaviest penalty possible," he stated.
