Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios has been provisionally suspended from the sport after his sample taken at the ATP 250 tournament in Mallorca tested positive for the cocaine metabolite benzoylecgonine.
Following the decision of the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), Kyrgios admitted his mistake and apologized. The 31-year-old tennis player said, "I made a huge mistake and I take full responsibility. I am ashamed of myself." Kyrgios also noted that the injuries he has suffered in recent years have taken a physical and mental toll on him.
BANNED FROM TENNIS ORGANIZATIONS
During the provisional suspension, Kyrgios will not be able to play in, coach at, or attend events organized by the ATP, Grand Slams, and national federations. Kyrgios, who rose to world number 13 in his career, reached the final at Wimbledon in 2022.
