A middle school teacher who was detained in the Edremit district of Balıkesir on the grounds that he made a social media post considered to contain insults against Atatürk and the Turkish flag has been arrested. During the teacher's being taken away by teams, a person's words, "We will have a crescent-star tattoo made on your forehead. We will also have an Atatürk portrait made on your heart," drew attention.
The teams of the Edremit Security Bureau Branch of the Balıkesir Provincial Police Department took into review a publicly shared post on Instagram under the username "BARYEK" during virtual patrol activities they carried out on social media platforms.
Considering that the post could constitute the crimes of "Degrading the Symbols of Sovereignty of the State" and "Contravening the Law on Crimes Committed Against Atatürk," the situation was reported to the duty public prosecutor.
IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE PERSON WHO MADE THE POST WAS A TEACHER
In the investigation initiated upon the instruction of the Public Prosecutor's Office, it was determined that the account from which the post was made belonged to 48-year-old F.Ç., who works as an art teacher at the 75th Year Secondary School affiliated with the Edremit District Directorate of National Education.
During the search conducted at the suspect's home, one mobile phone and one laptop computer were seized for examination.
REMANDED IN CUSTODY BY THE COURT
F.Ç., who was taken into custody, was referred to the court after police procedures and questioning by the prosecutor's office. The suspect teacher was remanded in custody by the court he was brought before and sent to prison.
"WE WILL HAVE A CRESCENT AND STAR ON YOUR FOREHEAD AND AN ATATÜRK PORTRAIT ON YOUR HEART"
While the teacher was being taken away by the teams, a person said the following to F.Ç.:
"We will have a crescent and star tattoo made on your forehead. We will also have an Atatürk portrait made on your heart."
