In the Akçakale district of Şanlıurfa, Mehmet Bertan, thinking that his wife Halime Bertan, whom he had severely beaten at home, was dead, tried to cover up the incident by making it look like a traffic accident. In Akçakale, Mehmet Bertan, believing that his wife Halime Bertan, whom he severely beat at home, was dead, attempted to disguise the incident as a traffic accident. While the seriously injured woman was being taken to the hospital, Mehmet Bertan was detained following doctors' warnings.

"INJURIES WERE NOT CAUSED BY AN ACCIDENT BUT BY ASSAULT"

The incident occurred on Sunday in the Arıcan neighborhood of Akçakale. Following reports that a car with the license plate 34 LS 4241 had flown into a field, gendarmerie and medical teams were dispatched to the area. The teams found Halime Bertan unconscious in the vehicle. Bruises and fractures were detected on Bertan's body. It was determined that the driver, Mehmet Bertan, had not been injured in the incident. Halime Bertan was taken to Akçakale State Hospital by ambulance. It was established that the injuries of Halime Bertan were not consistent with a traffic accident but resulted from severe assault. Following this, the gendarmerie teams reassessed the course of the incident.

THOUGHT SHE WAS DEAD

In the investigation conducted by the Akçakale District Gendarmerie Command, it was determined that Mehmet Bertan had beaten his wife with kicks, slaps, and a stick during the argument. It was revealed that Bertan thought his wife was dead and, in an attempt to cover up the incident, placed her in the car, took her to a rural road, and tried to make it look like an accident by driving the vehicle into a field. The gendarmerie detained Mehmet Bertan.

WOMAN'S LIFE REMAINS IN DANGER

It was reported that Halime Bertan's treatment in intensive care is ongoing and her life remains in danger.
