After the warning issued days in advance for Istanbul, rain arrived during the night. In the heavy downpour, the roads turned into lakes, and drivers had difficulty moving in traffic. While flooding occurred in some areas, lightning turned the night into day. In Bayrampaşa, the road collapsed during the rain.
Due to heavy rain and strong winds across Istanbul, some homes and businesses were flooded.
LIGHTNING ILLUMINATED THE NIGHT IN ISTANBUL
After warnings from the meteorology department, rain and strong winds began to affect Istanbul from the evening hours. Starting from the European side, the rain spread throughout the city and later turned into heavy precipitation. As the rain fell, lightning illuminated the sky, and thunder was heard in some districts.
DRIVERS STRUGGLED TO MOVE FORWARD
Due to the water accumulation on the roads, drivers used their vehicles slowly and carefully. Pedestrians walking on the sidewalk had difficulty walking because of the puddles. Those caught unprepared for the rain in Taksim Square sought shelter under the buildings and businesses.
FLOODING OCCURRED
Some passengers wanting to take the metrobus in Cevizlibağ waited under the overpass to protect themselves from the rain. Due to the heavy rain, a house was flooded on Melikoğlu Street in Arnavutköy Taşoluk Neighborhood. Flooding reports were made to the relevant units from businesses and homes located on the ground floors in various neighborhoods across the city.
ROAD COLLAPSED
Due to the heavy downpour affecting Istanbul, a road collapsed on Ordu Street in Bayrampaşa. Vehicles trapped on the collapsed road were recorded by a mobile phone camera.
