The severe storm and rainfall affecting the country will continue today. The meteorology department issued a "yellow" alert for 68 provinces. While temperatures are expected to drop suddenly by 5-7 degrees tonight, especially in the western provinces, it is anticipated that snow will be seen in a large part of the country in the new week. In the megacity of Istanbul, snowfall is expected on Monday and Tuesday.

According to the forecasts of the General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM), the heavy rain and storm affecting the country will continue today. Starting from the evening hours, a new cold air wave is expected to enter the country from the Balkans. MGM has issued a "yellow" alert for 68 cities against heavy rain and storms.

THE STORM WILL BE EFFECTIVE TODAY AS WELL

MGM stated that the wind will blow as a strong storm in many regions. It was warned that the storm, which is expected to increase its intensity from time to time, could lead to negative events such as roof blow-offs, tree and pole falls.

TEMPERATURES IN THE WEST WILL DROP BY 5-7 DEGREES

According to forecasts, the air temperature in the western provinces is expected to decrease suddenly by 5 to 7 degrees in the evening hours. With this drop in temperature, it is evaluated that the cold air wave will increase its effect across the country, and snowfall is expected in most parts of the country in the new week.

SNOW EXPECTATION IN ISTANBUL

In Istanbul, where strong storms and heavy rain are effective, it is anticipated that snowfall will begin with the cooling in the evening hours. It is predicted that snow may be effective in the city on Monday and Tuesday.

It was reported that frost and icing events could be seen in the inner and eastern parts in the morning hours. It was emphasized that the avalanche risk continues in the high areas of the inner parts of the Eastern Black Sea and in the eastern part of Eastern Anatolia, where there is a high snow cover.

YELLOW CODE WARNING FOR 68 PROVINCES

MGM issued a yellow code for provinces other than Çorum, Amasya, Tokat, Hatay, Kilis, Osmaniye, Gaziantep, Kahramanmaraş, Adıyaman, Şanlıurfa, Mardin, Malatya, and Elazığ. In the warning, it was requested to be cautious against heavy rain, storms, and avalanche risks.

WIND MAY REACH 50-80 KILOMETERS PER HOUR

According to forecasts, the wind is expected to reach speeds of 50-80 kilometers per hour in the Marmara, Aegean, and Mediterranean regions; in the south and east of Central Anatolia; in the inner parts of the Central and Eastern Black Sea; and in the north and west of Eastern Anatolia. Authorities reminded that precautions should be taken against possible risks, especially carbon monoxide poisoning from stoves and natural gas.

According to the forecasts made by the General Directorate of Meteorology: It is predicted that all of the country will experience rainy weather, except for the eastern part of Eastern Anatolia and the eastern part of the Eastern Black Sea. Rain and heavy rain are expected in the southern coasts and the southeast of Anatolia, while mixed rain and snow will be seen in other places; local heavy precipitation is expected in the southern and eastern parts of Marmara, Aegean (except İzmir and Manisa), Mediterranean, Central Anatolia, Western Black Sea, and around Amasya, Samsun, and Çorum. The wind is expected to blow strongly and briefly as a storm (50-80 km/h) from the southern directions in the Southern Aegean, Mediterranean, the south and east of Central Anatolia, the inner parts of the Central and Eastern Black Sea, and the north and west of Eastern Anatolia, gradually shifting to the northern directions in the western part of Marmara. Frost and icing events are expected in the inner and eastern regions in the morning and night hours. There is an avalanche risk in the high areas of the inner parts of the Eastern Black Sea and in the eastern part of Eastern Anatolia, where there is a high snow cover.

The wind is expected to generally blow from the south, gradually shifting to the north in the western parts of the country, with light to moderate strength, while in the Southern Aegean, Mediterranean, the south and east of Central Anatolia, the inner parts of the Central and Eastern Black Sea, and the north and west of Eastern Anatolia, it is expected to blow strongly and occasionally as a storm (50-80 km/h) from the northern directions in the western part of Marmara over time.
