The heavy rainfall affecting Istanbul is expected to intensify after 12:00 PM. The governorship has warned against flooding and transportation disruptions, while the rain is forecast to lose its effect by Thursday afternoon. Across the country, temperatures are expected to rise again towards the weekend.
According to the latest assessments of the General Directorate of Meteorology, the rainfall that started in Istanbul in the morning hours will intensify after 12:00 PM. The thunderstorm is expected to lose its effect as of Thursday afternoon.
WARNING FROM THE GOVERNORSHIP
The Istanbul Governorship called on citizens to be cautious in a statement made on social media. The statement emphasized the need to take precautions against floods, inundations, strong winds during rainfall, and possible disruptions in transportation.
RAINY WEATHER DOMINATES THE COUNTRY
Partly and mostly cloudy weather is expected across Turkey. Rain and occasional thunderstorms will be effective in Marmara, Aegean (except Muğla), Western Mediterranean, most of Central Anatolia, significant parts of the Black Sea, and some provinces of Eastern Anatolia. Rainfall is expected to be locally heavy in the southern and eastern parts of Marmara and the Western Black Sea region.
AVALANCHE AND SNOW MELT RISK
The Meteorology Department warned of avalanche danger in the interior parts of the Eastern Black Sea and the high and steep regions of Eastern Anatolia. It was stated that risks related to melting have increased in areas with dense snow cover.
WEEKEND TEMPERATURES TO RISE AGAIN
The temperatures that dropped at the beginning of the week are expected to increase again starting tomorrow. It is estimated that towards the weekend, air temperatures will rise by 6 to 7 degrees Celsius, reaching seasonal norms.
