In the Yunak district of Konya, a 73-year-old man named Mehmet Kurt, who was mistakenly registered as "deceased" in the population records due to a name similarity with a person who died in an accident, is trying to prove that he is alive. Kurt stated that a few days after the incident, gendarmerie teams called him to inform him about the mistake. He mentioned that he is unable to withdraw his retirement pension and that his wife, who is suffering from cancer, cannot receive treatment.

Mehmet Kurt, who lives in Antalya, had a car accident in his hometown of Yunak district on September 6. In the accident, Mehmet Kurt and his wife Dudu Kurt lost their lives. The couple was buried in the Yukarı Piribeyli neighborhood.

HE WAS RECORDED AS "DECEASED" DUE TO NAME SIMILARITY

In the death certificate issued by the Konya Forensic Medicine Group Presidency Public Prosecutor's Office, the deceased Mehmet Kurt was mistakenly recorded as deceased instead of the retired Mehmet Kurt (73), who is registered in the Yığar neighborhood of Yunak district and lives in the Milli Egemenlik neighborhood of Ilgın district.

HE EXPERIENCED THE SHOCK OF HIS LIFE WITH A PHONE CALL FROM THE GENDARMERIE

A few days after this incident, the gendarmerie, realizing the situation, contacted Mehmet Kurt by phone and informed him. To prove he was alive, Kurt first applied to the Yunak Public Prosecutor's Office and then to the Public Prosecutor's Office in Ilgın, where he resides.

"I COULDN'T RECEIVE MY PENSION BECAUSE I APPEARED AS DECEASED"

Stating that he could not receive his pension because he appeared as deceased in the population records, Mehmet Kurt said, "When the gendarmerie called and explained the situation, I went to Yunak district. I gave a statement to the gendarmerie and the prosecutor's office. Then I came to Ilgın. Here, I gave a statement to the prosecutor's office. I applied to the Population Directorate. Now, although I am not dead, I am trying to prove that I am alive. Because I appeared as deceased in the records, I could not receive my pension last month. It is uncertain what will happen this month. I have been victimized," he said.

"MY WIFE'S CANCER TREATMENT IS BEING DELAYED"

Expressing that he could not continue the treatment of his wife, who is a cancer patient, because he appeared as deceased in the records, Kurt said, "Because the family of the deceased can apply to the SGK and register the death, after which the spouse or children can benefit from social security. I am alive, but I appear as deceased in the documents. I cannot receive my pension, and my wife's treatment is being delayed. I want this victimization to be resolved as soon as possible," he said.
