The rules that the TFF will implement in the Super League with the new season have been revealed. The TFF, which adapts many of the rules applied in the World Cup to the Super League, will also expand VAR's authority. Here are the details...
The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) is implementing major rule changes in the Trendyol Süper Lig starting from the 2026/2027 season.
A NEW ERA IN TURKISH FOOTBALL
Some new rules first applied in the 2026 World Cup are being integrated into Turkish football either as is or adapted. The aim is to make matches more fluid and faster.
According to HT Spor's news, the new rules are as follows:
PLAYER SUBSTITUTIONS AND LEAVING THE FIELD
After the referee signals a substitution, the player leaving the field must exit the playing area within 10 seconds. Otherwise, the incoming player will not be allowed to enter the game for 1 minute after play resumes.
INJURIES AND GAME DELAYS
An injured player causing the game to stop will stay off the field for 1 minute after play resumes (except for some exceptions).
TIME-WASTING PREVENTION MEASURES
To prevent delays in restarting play, a 5-second countdown will begin after the referee blows the whistle. If a throw-in is not taken within 5 seconds, possession will be awarded to the opposing team. If a goal kick is delayed, a corner kick will be awarded to the opposing team.
VAR'S EXPANDED AUTHORITY
VAR may intervene in the following situations:
- Red cards resulting from clearly incorrect second yellow cards
- Clearly incorrect corner kick decisions
- Infringements occurring before the ball is in play during set pieces that result in a goal or penalty
- The referee penalizing the wrong player
OTHER IMPORTANT CHANGES
Covering the mouth will be assessed as a yellow card. If offensive expressions are detected in post-match reviews, disciplinary penalties will be applied. Cooling breaks will only take place when the air temperature is 32 degrees Celsius or above. The referee will regulate the duration per half, not exceeding 3 minutes.
