In the Yüksekova district of Hakkari, transportation has been disrupted due to snowfall affecting high altitudes despite the spring season. Snow-fighting teams continue to clear roads under challenging conditions, with snow depths reaching up to 6 meters.
Despite the spring season, snowfall continuing to be effective in high altitudes in the Yüksekova district of Hakkari causes disruptions in transportation. In the efforts carried out by the teams of the Special Provincial Administration, as snow depth reaches 6 meters in places, work machines disappear inside massive snow tunnels.
SNOW DEPTH REACHES 6 METERS
Snow captivity continues in the high-altitude regions of the Yüksekova district as of May. Snow-fighting efforts, especially concentrated on the Çobanpınar village road, create scenes that rival winter months. Teams affiliated with the Yüksekova Site Directorate of the Special Provincial Administration work intensely to open closed roads, while snow depth reaching 6 meters at some points complicates the work.
EXCAVATOR ENTERS SNOW TUNNEL
Massive tunnels formed on the opened roads due to the height of snow masses. An excavator carrying out snow-clearing work disappearing inside the tunnel while advancing between snow walls exceeding the machine's height once again reveals the challenging natural conditions in the region. Excavators were dispatched as reinforcements to areas where standard work machines prove insufficient.
Teams proceed with great caution against the avalanche danger that may occur with the increase in air temperatures. Personnel working on a 24/7 basis strive to clear roads among snow walls, meticulously working to provide access to villages.
Officials stated that snow-fighting activities carried out to prevent hardship for local residents will continue non-stop until all closed village roads are opened. Roads opened between snow walls create striking images documenting how harsh the winter conditions can be even in May.
