Holders of green passports will no longer be able to enter the EU as they wish.

Holders of green passports will no longer be able to enter the EU as they wish.

04.01.2025 23:11

The European Union is starting a "pre-visa" application for Turkish citizens holding a green passport. In the first half of 2025, Germany, France, and the Netherlands will also join the system called ETIAS. Those with a green passport will need to download the program and pay 7 Euros, after which they will enter their passport information and payment details into the system. If the system does not grant approval, the individual will not be able to enter the EU.

Bad news has come for Turkish citizens with a green passport from the European Union (EU). The EU Travel and Authorization System ETIAS will be implemented in the first half of 2025. Accordingly, holders of green or gray passports, who do not require an EU visa, will need to register in the ETIAS system for their travels to EU member countries as well as Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, and Lichtenstein.

IF THE SYSTEM DOES NOT APPROVE, THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ENTER THE EU

According to a report by Ali Gülen from Sözcü, a fee of 7 Euros will be paid upon entry into the system, and if approval is not granted, entry into the EU will not be possible. Those traveling will be turned back at the border. While Germany, France, and the Netherlands could not implement the system, some EU member countries started using it in mid-November 2024. The system, designed for security purposes, will include a preliminary visa check. It is expected that 90 to 95 percent of applications will receive a positive response.

1 BILLION PEOPLE WILL BE AFFECTED

For green and diplomatic passport holders traveling to Germany, a country frequently visited by Turks, preliminary notification will begin in the first half of 2025. It is expected that 1 billion people, including Turks, will be affected by ETIAS.

THE 7 EUROS OF THOSE WHO ARE REJECTED WILL BE WASTED

Before traveling, the system will be introduced, and a form will be filled out. In addition to the passport, an email address and payment information will be entered to access ETIAS. Information will be displayed at the first border control. The individual will enter their information into the EU system before leaving Turkey. If a rejection response is received after personal and biometric data are submitted, the individual will not be able to enter the EU or leave Turkey. The 7 Euro payment will also not be refunded. No payment will be required from those under 18 years old.

APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONCLUDED WITHIN 96 HOURS

The first requirement in ETIAS is payment. After the application, the results can be obtained within a few minutes to 96 hours. Everyone who passes the security check will receive ETIAS travel authorization. The EU states that this is not a visa, but a "travel authorization."
