A taxi driver picking up a passenger via a mobile phone application at Mersin Bus Terminal was blocked and threatened by other drivers affiliated with the terminal's taxi stand. In the scandalous incident captured second by second on the vehicle's dashcam, the fearful moments experienced by foreign tourists in the taxi and their apologizing by clasping their hands despite being innocent touched the hearts of viewers.
The incident began when a taxi driver dropped off a passenger at the terminal and accepted a new passenger request via the application. Noticing this, terminal taxi drivers immediately surrounded the vehicle and tried to pressure the driver. Against the angry group telling him to close the app, the driver defended himself, saying, 'I accepted it from the app, bro. My license plate is here, if I'm not following the rules, go complain.'
'DON'T BOTHER ME'
As the taxi driver did not back down, the tension escalated further. A taxi stand driver reached through the open window of the vehicle and openly threatened the driver, saying, 'Don't act like a star, don't bother me!' and hit the car hard to intimidate. No one heeded the driver's warnings that 'I have customers in the car.'
TOURISTS APOLOGIZED MULTIPLE TIMES
The foreign tourist couple, confused by the shouting outside and the banging on the car, experienced great shock and fear for their lives in the back seat. Thinking the incident was caused by them and trying to calm the situation, the tourists were captured on camera repeatedly clasping their hands in fear and pleading in English, saying 'Sorry.'
The footage shared on social media and causing great outrage once again revealed how the lack of oversight in taxi transportation and some stops' 'monopolization' ambitions harm both their colleagues and the country's tourism.
