News from the US state of Ohio has sent shockwaves through the global agenda. Police officers, who entered a dilapidated home for another investigation, rescued 16 children held captive for years in a single room amid feces and garbage. Their ages ranged from 1.5 to 18, and some could not speak, breaking hearts, while the perpetrators—the mother, father, and grandparents—were brought before a judge.

In Hamden, a village in Ohio with a population of less than 1,000, a domestic violence and neglect scandal that shocked global public opinion has been uncovered. According to Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson, police teams conducting a raid on a dilapidated house in a rural area as part of a separate investigation encountered 16 children held captive inside.

"THEY WERE KEPT IN CONDITIONS WORSE THAN ANIMALS"

Details shared by Vinton County Sheriff Ryan Cain revealed the extent of the brutality the children endured. It was stated that the house was covered in garbage and human feces, and it was determined that some children did not even know how to speak, while an 18-year-old with developmental disabilities could not even spell his own name.

Speaking at a press conference, Sheriff Ryan Cain described the horrific scene in the house, saying, 'Most of our animals were kept in better conditions than these children.' Attorney General Andy Wilson described the scene as 'pure evil,' stating it was the most horrifying sight he had encountered in his career.

YEARS SPENT IN A 3.5-METER ROOM

According to findings obtained by investigators, it is believed that the children spent most of the last four years in a single room inside the house measuring approximately 3.5 square meters. While details on how the children were restrained are not fully disclosed, it was noted that there were no cages in the house.

Seven of the rescued children were taken to hospitals in Columbus, while two in more serious condition were transported by helicopter to level 1 trauma centers. Officials reported that one of the children is in critical condition and connected to a ventilator.

FAMILY MEMBERS BEFORE THE JUDGE

The parents and grandparents Gary Siders Jr., Gary Siders Sr., Christina Siders, and Elizabeth Siders, each facing 16 separate charges of "endangering children causing serious physical harm," appeared before a judge on Wednesday. The defendants pleaded not guilty, and a bail of $300,000 was set for each. It was emphasized that the incident was a "domestic situation" rather than human trafficking.

NEIGHBORS HAD NEVER SEEN CHILDREN

As the investigation deepens, how the family concealed this atrocity is also coming to light. It was determined that the family frequently changed addresses in southern Ohio over the last 20 years, did not enroll the children in school, and skillfully avoided health and official records.

A neighbor named Joseph Stewart, who has lived on the same street for six years, expressed the community's shock, stating he had never seen any children in the house since the family moved in. State officials have filed for temporary custody of all the children and initiated legal proceedings to ensure justice.
