DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan responded to a tradesman's question about retired pensions and inflation at a neighborhood market. Stating that it is impossible to get by with current retirement pensions, Babacan drew attention to the cost of living for a family of four and said the poverty line is around 100,000 TL.
Ali Babacan, the Chairman of the DEVA Party, listened to the problems of citizens and market vendors at a neighborhood market he visited as part of his field work. During the visit, a market vendor, referring to Babacan's former identity as the Minister of Economy, asked him: "As a former economy minister, how much should a retiree be receiving in this country with this inflation?"
"IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET BY WITH 20 THOUSAND-25 THOUSAND LIRAS"
Responding to the vendor's question, Babacan, emphasizing the inadequacy of current retirement pensions, replied, "It is impossible to get by with 20 thousand-25 thousand liras." When the market vendor elaborated on his question by saying, "How much should it be, my President?", Babacan continued his assessment by highlighting the living costs of a four-person family.
"THE POVERTY LINE IS AROUND 100 THOUSAND TL"
Ali Babacan, the leader of the DEVA Party, stating that the purchasing power in Turkey has decreased and the cost of living has increased, used the following expressions in his statement: "Looking at purchasing power, it is normally impossible for a four-person family to get by with a salary below 100 thousand TL. The poverty line for a four-person family is around 100 thousand TL. If you earn below that, you cannot buy what you want; it's not possible; that is the limit right now. TÜRK-İŞ, which conducts research every month, states this limit."
