In the tragic incident that occurred in Yalova's Bağlarbaşı Neighborhood, 22-year-old Muhammed Demir severely wounded his 8-month pregnant wife, Sultan Pelit Demir, by shooting her with a pump-action shotgun. He then attempted to take his own life with the same weapon and was taken to intensive care. While the young woman lost her life at the hospital, the baby in her womb was miraculously saved.
ARGUMENT BETWEEN COUPLE ENDED IN BLOOD
The incident took place yesterday around 20:00 in Yalova's Bağlarbaşı Neighborhood. According to information obtained, an argument broke out at home for a reason not yet determined between Muhammed Demir, who was known to have been experiencing severe marital discord for some time, and his 8-month pregnant wife, Sultan Pelit Demir.
As the argument quickly escalated, Muhammed Demir took the pump-action shotgun in the house and fired at his wife. While the pregnant woman, hit by the pellets, collapsed in a pool of blood, the murderous husband aimed the same weapon at his own head and pulled the trigger.
HEALTH TEAMS DISPATCHED TO THE SCENE
After neighborhood residents heard the gunshots coming from the house and reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center, numerous police and health teams were dispatched to the address. Health workers arriving at the scene provided first aid to the seriously injured couple and then transported them by ambulance to nearby private hospitals.
MOTHER LOST HER LIFE, BABY SAVED
19-year-old Sultan Pelit Demir, who was taken to the hospital seriously injured, was rushed into emergency surgery. In the operation where doctors raced against time, the 8-month-old baby boy in the young woman's womb was delivered through a successful surgery. It was learned that the baby, placed in an incubator in the intensive care unit, was in good health. However, despite all the doctors' interventions, Sultan Pelit Demir could not be saved and lost her life.
MURDEROUS HUSBAND IN INTENSIVE CARE
It was reported that Muhammed Demir, who attempted suicide after shooting his wife, continues to receive treatment in the hospital's intensive care unit, and his life-threatening condition persists. The Yalova Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident that plunged the city into mourning.
