Icelandic Prime Minister Kristrun Frostadottir, who drew attention with images of her admiring the Presidential Complex during the NATO Leaders Summit, spoke for the first time about those moments. Before leaving Ankara, Icelandic Prime Minister Kristrun Frostadottir, who also visited Ankara Castle, made a post after the NATO Summit. In her post, she stated: "NATO is undergoing a transformation. Europe is now taking on greater responsibility; this is a positive development. Moreover, NATO, in terms of both its membership numbers and contributions to collective defense, is larger and stronger than ever. That is the big picture. Born on May 12, 1988, in Reykjavík, Frostadóttir built her academic and professional life entirely around economics and finance. After her undergraduate studies at the University of Iceland, she went to the USA and earned a master's degree in international relations from Yale University and in economics from Boston University. She began her career as an economics journalist and continued it within the international finance giant Morgan Stanley in its New York and London offices. After returning to her country, she directed the financial sector as Chief Economist at the Iceland Chamber of Commerce and later at Kvika Bank.
RECORD-BREAKING RAPID RISE IN POLITICS
Leaving behind her prestigious position in the financial world, Frostadóttir entered active politics in 2021 and entered parliament for the Social Democratic Alliance (Samfylkingin).
Thanks to her effective performance in parliament, just one year later, in October 2022, she was elected as the party's Chairman with a record 94% of the vote. The young leader, who brought her party to first place in the 2024 elections, officially took the seat of Prime Minister on December 21, 2024, after forming a coalition government with Viðreisn and the People's Party.
