In the Torbalı district of İzmir, a mother, father, and son lost their lives, and the incident, initially assessed as murder and suicide, turned out to be a 'heritage' murder.
THE TEAMS ENCOUNTERED A HORRIFIC SCENE
The incident occurred on October 24 in the Muratbey neighborhood of Torbalı. According to the information obtained, teams that were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of gunshots in a residence encountered a horrific scene. Upon examination of the house, it was determined that Sadi Avcı (67) and his wife Hatice Avcı (54) had been shot in the head in different rooms, while the family's eldest son, Mehmet Avcı (33), was found dead in the living room. Initial investigations suggested that Mehmet Avcı might have killed his parents and then committed suicide with the same weapon.
THE POSITION OF THE BODY AND THE LOCATION OF THE GUN RAISED SUSPICIONS
Teams from the Homicide Bureau and Crime Analysis Bureau of the Public Security Department, who arrived at the scene, became suspicious of the position of the lifeless body of Mehmet Avcı, who was considered to have committed suicide, and the location of the weapon. Following the possibility that the situation could be a murder, a special team consisting of detectives from the Homicide Bureau and Crime Analysis Bureau was established upon the instruction of the Provincial Police Chief.
1,200 HOURS OF CAMERA FOOTAGE EXAMINED
In the investigation coordinated by the Torbalı Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, teams from the Intelligence Branch, Crime Scene Investigation, İzmir Criminal Regional Directorate, and Torbalı District Police Department conducted a joint operation. In the uninterrupted work that lasted 4 days, the family's youngest son, M.A. (31), was put under scrutiny. The teams examined over 1,200 hours of footage obtained from nearly 20 License Plate Recognition Systems (PTS) and 60 security cameras located throughout the district and İzmir city center, second by second.
THE MURDER WAS REVEALED BY A "SOUND" SEARCH
As a result of technical and physical surveillance, it was determined that the suspect M.A. came from İzmir city center to Torbalı on the day of the incident and procured cotton, cologne, and gloves from different workplaces before the murder. In an examination conducted by the Cyber Crime Branch teams on digital materials, a chilling detail emerged. It was revealed that the suspect had searched for "gunshot sound decibel levels" on a video-sharing site before the incident, indicating that he had planned the murder in detail.
HE KILLED HIS MOTHER FIRST, THEN HIS FATHER, AND FINALLY HIS BROTHER
The team deepening the investigation found that M.A. came home and first killed his mother, who was alone in the house, then called his father to the house and finally killed his brother who came home. It was understood that the suspect arranged the room where his brother was found after the murders to make it look like a "frenzy and suicide," wiped the fingerprints from the gun, and left the scene to avoid drawing attention.
HE DID IT FOR THE INHERITANCE
It was determined that M.A., who was taken into custody, had financial difficulties and committed the murders to have sole possession of the inheritance. After his procedures at the police station, the suspect was referred to the courthouse, where he was arrested by the court and sent to prison. Among the suspects taken into custody in connection with the incident, S.A. (31) was released after his statement at the police station, while T.B. (28) was released under judicial control conditions.
