In the Serik district of Antalya, a fire broke out after a homeowner allegedly set fire to his apartment on the top floor of a 3-story building. Muzaffer Yıldız, who lives as a tenant in the building, climbed onto the balcony of the burning apartment and rescued the cat after the homeowner's son said there were cats inside. The homeowner M.E., who is alleged to have set the house on fire, was taken to the police station in tears.
A fire broke out in Antalya's Serik district after a homeowner allegedly set fire to his apartment on the top floor of the three-story building where he lived. While the fire caused great panic in the neighborhood, a young man living as a tenant in the building risked his life and rescued a cat from the flames. The homeowner, who is alleged to have burned down his house, shed tears in a police vehicle.
The incident occurred in Kökez Neighborhood of Antalya's Serik district. M.E., living on the top floor of a three-story apartment building, allegedly set fire to the apartment he lived in for a still-unknown reason. M.E., who was reportedly alone at home during the fire, was taken outside at the last moment by his son, who noticed the rising flames.
Neighborhood residents and other tenants in the building who saw the flames spilling from the windows panicked greatly and rushed out into the street. Upon the report, fire, police, and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. With the intervention of fire crews, the fire was brought under control and extinguished before spreading to the lower floors.
YOUNG TENANT CLIMBED ONTO THE BALCONY FOR THE CAT
During the fire, a great lesson in humanity also unfolded in the building. A young man named Muzaffer Yıldız, residing as a tenant in the apartment building, acted without hesitation when he learned that a cat was trapped in the homeowner's apartment. The young man climbed to rescue the cat that had taken refuge on the balcony of the burning apartment, and managed to save it.
Describing the moment, heroic tenant Muzaffer Yıldız said, 'Everything happened all at once. A fire broke out; first I heard shouting. When my landlord's son said there were cats inside, I immediately wanted to rescue them. At that moment, I couldn't even think that I was putting my life in danger; I just focused on getting them out. At one point I got scared, but thank God we saved them. I wish such an incident had never happened.'
NEIGHBOR: HE SAID HE HIMSELF BURNED THE HOUSE
Kadir Tosun, one of the neighborhood residents who witnessed the fire, summarized the moments of horror as follows: 'Flames suddenly started coming out of the window, then they engulfed everywhere. The person living in the house personally said that he had burned the house himself. After that, the fire crews came and intervened anyway.'
Homeowner M.E., who is alleged to have invited disaster by burning down his own house, shed tears inside the police vehicle after the fire was extinguished, and was then taken to the police station to give a statement.
After the fire, the apartment became unusable, while police launched a wide-ranging investigation into the incident.
