Yaşar Tekeli killed his brother-in-law in 2011 and his lover in 2012; in 2023, he strangled his nephew and threw him into a well, then covered it with concrete. Through confessions, all the murders were solved 14 years later.
In Hatay, it was revealed that Yaşar Tekeli (42), who was determined to have killed his brother-in-law Mehmet Uyğur (59) in 2011 and his lover Selbi Uyğur (32), who participated in the same murder in 2012, also killed his niece Nagihan Uyğur (19) three years ago, and after throwing the body into a well in front of the house, he covered it with concrete.
FIRST MURDER SOLVED 8 YEARS LATER
In 2011, the body of Mehmet Uyğur was found buried by a stream in the Dörtyol district. Within the scope of the investigation launched under the coordination of the Hatay Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, teams from the Homicide Bureau solved the murder in 2018. The study determined that the murder was committed by Mehmet Uyğur's wife Hatice Uyğur (49), his brother-in-law Yaşar Tekeli, and his daughter-in-law, who was also Tekeli's lover, Selbi Uyğur.
While Hatice Uyğur and Yaşar Tekeli were taken into custody, Selbi Uyğur could not be found. After the procedures, Hatice Uyğur was arrested while being referred to the courthouse, while Yaşar Tekeli was released under judicial supervision. Selbi Uyğur's family filed a missing person report in 2012. An arrest warrant was issued for Yaşar Tekeli, who settled in Kütahya after being released under judicial control, for the murder of Mehmet Uyğur, but he could not be traced for a while. Tekeli was caught and arrested in 2025.
CONFESSION CAME 14 YEARS LATER
Within the scope of the studies carried out under the coordination of the Department of Investigation of Unsolved Crimes established within the Ministry of Justice, the file of Selbi Uyğur, who was sought as a fugitive suspect and missing person, was reopened. In the study covering the provinces of Hatay, Mersin, İzmir, and Istanbul, the statement of Hatice Uyğur, who was convicted for her husband's murder, was retaken. Hatice Uyğur confessed that she, together with her brother Yaşar Tekeli and O.Ç., who was in prison for another crime, killed her daughter-in-law Selbi Uyğur.
BURIED IN AN ORANGE GROVE
After the confession, it was learned that the suspects showed the location and the body had been buried in an orange grove in the Dörtyol district. Following a 15-day excavation, women's clothing and human bones were found last week. Examinations at the Forensic Medicine Institute determined that the bones belonged to Selbi Uyğur, who had been sought as missing since 2012. Hatice Uyğur, Yaşar Tekeli, and O.Ç., who were being tried for the murder of Mehmet Uyğur, were arrested on charges of 'premeditated murder'.
THREW HIS NIECE INTO A WELL AND COVERED IT WITH CONCRETE
It was revealed that Yaşar Tekeli, after being released under judicial supervision in 2018, killed his niece Nagihan Uyğur, who had been sought as missing for 1 year in 2023 in Kütahya where he had settled, after committing sexual assault.
In the case solved last year, it was stated that Tekeli's two wives, one married officially and the other religiously, could not accept the sexual assault and did not want the young girl in the same house, and a family council decided on 'execution' for Nagihan Uyğur. It was noted that Tekeli, together with his other relatives, strangled the young girl with a rope, threw her into a well in front of the house on Dutlu Street in the Börekçiler neighborhood, and covered it with concrete. While Nagihan Uyğur's body was recovered through the work of AFAD and crime scene investigation teams and laid to rest, it was reported that Tekeli, who was being tried alongside 8 suspects, was also arrested for this crime.
