Mehmet Aydın and Fatih Aydın, who are being tried in detention on the grounds that they are the founders of the system known to the public as "Çiftlik Bank," have been sentenced to 45,376 years and 6 months in prison each.
Five detained defendants, including Mehmet Aydın and Fatih Aydın, were brought from prison to the hearings of five separate cases held at the Anadolu 6th Heavy Penal Court. While the non-detained defendant Cafer Çolak, the complainants, and the defense attorneys were also present at the hearing, one defendant connected to the court via the Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBİS).
A TOTAL OF 88,302 YEARS WAS REQUESTED FOR BOTH DEFENDANTS
The public prosecutor reiterated the opinion he had previously stated in earlier sessions, requesting that Mehmet Aydın and Fatih Aydın be punished for "fraud through information systems" 4,414 times, as well as for "establishing a criminal organization" and "laundering assets derived from crime." In the opinion, a total of 88,302 years of imprisonment was requested for both defendants, while different prison sentences were requested for the other defendants for various crimes.
"I DID NOT ENTER THIS BUSINESS WITH FRAUDULENT INTENT"
Detained defendant Mehmet Aydın, who was given the floor to make his defense, stated, "As I said from the very beginning, I did not enter this business with fraudulent intent, I did not defraud anyone. The investments I made are capable of compensating the victims' losses. They became victims because the state seized the funds; the money in judicial custody can cover the victims' losses." Fatih Aydın and the other detained defendants also claimed that they had no connection to the organization and requested acquittal.
"I REQUEST MY ACQUITTAL"
When the presiding judge asked the defendants for their final words, Mehmet Aydın said, "I did not act with the intent to defraud anyone. I did not make any false statements to the complainants; I request my acquittal."
"MOST OF THE DEFENDANTS DO NOT KNOW ME"
Fatih Aydın stated, "I am not a member of any organization. Most of the defendants do not know me. For me to be a leader, they need to know me, and I do not know most of them either."
