The Istanbul Governorship has banned protests and demonstrations for three days in the districts of Beşiktaş, Beyoğlu, Eyüpsultan, Kağıthane, Sarıyer, and Şişli. Istanbul Governor Davut Gül stated that the decision to impose the ban was made to prevent any obstruction of the delegation temporarily appointed to the CHP Istanbul Provincial Administration.

After the court appointed a trustee to the Istanbul Provincial Administration of the Republican People's Party (CHP), a temporary committee led by Gürsel Tekin was assigned to the position.
While Tekin's acceptance of the court decision caused a crisis within the CHP, some members of the committee announced their resignation. Gürsel Tekin, on the other hand, announced that he would go to the CHP Istanbul Provincial Presidency on Monday.
ACTIVITY IN FRONT OF THE PROVINCIAL BUILDING
The CHP administration announced that they would not allow Gürsel Tekin, who was appointed as a trustee to the Istanbul Provincial Presidency, to enter the provincial building. It was stated that Tekin would not be allowed into the building by CHP members, and hundreds of riot police were dispatched to the Provincial Presidency building.
PROHIBITION OF ACTION IN 6 DISTRICTS BY THE GOVERNORATE BAN
After the tension within the CHP increased, the Istanbul Governorate banned protests and demonstrations in the districts of Beşiktaş, Beyoğlu, Eyüpsultan, Kağıthane, Sarıyer, and Şişli for 3 days.
In the statement from the governorate, it was stated: "All kinds of rallies, press statements, open-air meetings, and demonstration marches, tent setups, booth openings, sit-ins, signature campaigns, memorial ceremonies, etc., in our Beşiktaş, Beyoğlu, Eyüpsultan, Kağıthane, Sarıyer, and Şişli districts are prohibited from 20:00 on Sunday, September 7, 2025, until 23:59 on September 10, 2025, due to the obligations arising from articles (a) and (c) of Article 11 of the Provincial Administration Law No. 5442 and Articles 17 and 19 of the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911," it said.
STATEMENT FROM DAVUT GÜL
Istanbul Governor Davut Gül announced that a ban was imposed to prevent the obstruction of the duties of the committee temporarily assigned to the CHP Istanbul Provincial Administration.
In his statement, Gül said: "With the interim decision of the Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance dated 02/09/2025, the Chairman of the Republican People's Party Istanbul Provincial Organization, the Provincial Executive Board, and the Provincial Disciplinary Board have been temporarily removed from their duties; it has been decided to appoint a Temporary Committee in their place.
The Temporary Committee appointed by the court has all the powers of the Provincial Chairman, Executive, and Disciplinary Boards, and obstructing their duties will legally result in criminal sanctions. Inviting our citizens to illegal meetings and demonstrations or making calls in this direction constitutes a legal offense. It is clear that such initiatives will harm social peace.
In order to maintain unity and solidarity in our Istanbul, all necessary measures have been taken, including the decision to ban meetings and demonstrations. We invite all our fellow citizens to act with common sense and in accordance with the law and democratic maturity during this process."
REACTION FROM ÖZGÜR ÇELİK
Following Davut Gül's statement and the Istanbul Governorate's decision to ban actions, the first statement from the CHP came from Özgür Çelik. Çelik, who was removed from duty by the court, said, "Our CHP Istanbul Provincial building is the people's house. The arrival of CHP members at the CHP provincial building is not a demonstration, march, or action. It is not a crime at all. It is their most natural right and duty. Preventing our members from coming to their own house is a crime."
ÖZGÜR ÖZEL: WE ARE NOT AFRAID
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel stated regarding the developments, "Shame on those who have surrounded our family home with police. They should know that defending the CHP is defending the Republic. Attacking the CHP is attacking the Republic. We will stand against those who attack the Republic. We are not afraid, we will not surrender, and we will not."
TRUSTEE DECISION FOR ISTANBUL PROVINCIAL ADMINISTRATION
The Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance, with its interim decision in the case opened for the annulment of the Istanbul Provincial Congress held on October 8, 2023, removed the provincial administration led by Özgür Çelik from duty, and after the court's decision, Gürsel Tekin, who announced his departure from the CHP in 2024, was appointed as a trustee to the Istanbul Provincial Presidency.
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel announced that Gürsel Tekin had been expelled from the party, and stated that other individuals appointed by the court would also be expelled if necessary.
Among the names temporarily assigned to the Istanbul Provincial Administration by the court, Hasan Babacan and Müjdat Gürbüz announced that they had withdrawn from the administration.
