In Diyarbakır, 15 defendants, including 6 who are in custody and 3 minors, accused of "aiding and abetting a criminal" in relation to the murder of Narin Güran, appeared before the judge for the third time. The trial, in which the defendants face up to 5 years in prison, began behind closed doors to the public.
In the central Bağlar district of Diyarbakır, the trial continues regarding the murder of Narin Güran (8), whose lifeless body was found on the 19th day of her disappearance, hidden under stones and bushes in the Eğertutmaz Stream. The detained defendants Maşallah, Fuat, and Birsen Güran, along with Salim Güran's worker Mehmet Selim Atasoy, Mehmet Şevket Kaya, and Muhammed Kaya, as well as the non-detained defendants Şeyma Kaya, İbrahim Halil Güran, Hediye Güran, Barış Güran, Kurtuluş Güran, and Ömer Faruk Güran, and the minors R.A. and İ.K. (17) appeared before the judge for the third time.
THE TRIAL HAS STARTED
The detained defendants were brought to the Diyarbakır Courthouse from the Diyarbakır Penal Institutions Campus with extensive security measures using prison transport vehicles. The trial held at the Diyarbakır 17th Criminal Court of First Instance has begun.
UP TO 5 YEARS OF IMPRISONMENT REQUESTED
The prosecutor had submitted a 10-page opinion to the Diyarbakır 17th Criminal Court of First Instance on April 29, prepared during the interim session. The opinion included the search efforts initiated after the report of Narin Güran's disappearance and the developments that occurred during the investigation. In the opinion presented by the public prosecutor, it was requested that the defendants be sentenced to separate terms of imprisonment ranging from 6 months to 5 years.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The investigation conducted by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the murder of Narin Güran, who went missing in the Tavşantepe neighborhood of the central Bağlar district on August 21, 2024, and whose lifeless body was found in the Eğertutmaz Stream on September 8, 2024, was completed against 12 people, 6 of whom are detained, and 3 minors involved in the crime. The indictment prepared by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, requesting imprisonment of 6 months to 5 years for the 12 individuals for the crime of "aiding a criminal," was accepted by the Diyarbakır 17th Criminal Court of First Instance, while the indictment prepared for the minors R.A. and İ.K. for the same crime was accepted by the 2nd Juvenile Court.
The request of the Diyarbakır 2nd Juvenile Court to merge their case with the case opened against the 12 defendants, 6 of whom are detained, at the Diyarbakır 17th Criminal Court of First Instance was accepted.
The investigation conducted by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against mother Yüksel, brother Enes, uncle Salim Güran, and Nevzat Bahtiyar was completed, and the indictment prepared against the 4 defendants for "intentional murder of a child in complicity" with aggravated life imprisonment was accepted by the Diyarbakır 8th Heavy Penal Court on October 23, 2024.
The trial of the defendants began on November 7, 2024, and during the hearing on December 28, 2024, the court panel decided to sentence the detained defendants Yüksel, Enes, and Salim Güran to aggravated life imprisonment for "intentional murder of a child in complicity," and Nevzat Bahtiyar, who confessed to hiding Narin's lifeless body in the Eğertutmaz Stream, to 4 years and 6 months in prison for "destroying, concealing, or altering evidence of a crime," and to continue their detention.
