It has been announced that brown eggs will no longer be sold on supermarket shelves in Germany. Henner Schönecke, the president of the Federal Association of German Egg Producers, stated that it will become increasingly difficult to find brown eggs in supermarkets over the next five years. The rising production costs of brown eggs have been cited as the reason for this change.
In recent years, the increase in egg prices in Germany has brought discussions along with it. Approximately 30% of the eggs sold in supermarkets in the country are brown, but this rate is expected to change soon. The President of the Federal Association of German Egg Producers, Henner Schönecke, stated that the sale of brown eggs will be restricted due to rising costs. Schönecke noted that the production costs of brown eggs have increased, which is why producers and supermarkets prefer to turn economically to white eggs.
BROWN EGG PRODUCTION IS MORE EXPENSIVE
President Schönecke emphasized that brown eggs are more expensive, especially due to traditional production methods. He pointed out that finding brown eggs in supermarkets will become increasingly difficult over the next five years, noting that although there is a widespread belief that brown eggs are perceived as healthy and natural by a larger consumer base, this perception is no longer commercially sustainable. Even if the sale of brown eggs in supermarkets ceases, they can still be obtained from some specialty organic markets and farms. This change in supermarkets is seen as a step that is expected to affect egg purchasing habits across Europe.
