The file of Dorukhan Büyükışık, son of retired Major General Ethem Büyükışık, who was found dead at a construction site in İzmir in 2018, has been taken off the shelf. A detention order was issued for İsmail Y., the then Narlıdere District Police Director, on allegations that he intervened at the crime scene, tampered with evidence, directed police officers, and held meetings with company owners regarding the suspicious death. In operations conducted across 9 provinces within the scope of the investigation, 21 suspects were apprehended.
A new operation was launched in the case of Dorukhan Büyükışık, who was found dead at a construction site in İzmir's Narlıdere district on May 13, 2018. The İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which deepened the investigation into the incident initially recorded as a "suicide," issued detention orders for 26 suspects.
DETENTION ORDER FOR 26 SUSPECTS Teams from the İzmir Provincial Gendarmerie Command's TEM Branch Office, assigned by the Terror and Organized Crimes Investigation Bureau, launched simultaneous operations across 9 provinces centered on İzmir. Among those subject to detention orders were construction company owners Mehmet Münir T. and Mehmet Taylan T., the then-Narlıdere District Police Chief İsmail Y., the then-Narlıdere Police Station Chief İsmail K., Crime Scene Investigation Bureau Chief Atakan K., Group Supervisor Commissioner Hüseyin V., police officers, and workers.
In the simultaneous operations across 9 provinces centered on İzmir, 21 suspects were taken into custody. Numerous digital materials were also seized as part of the operation. Arrest warrants were issued for 3 suspects determined to be abroad, while efforts to apprehend 2 suspects are ongoing.
FORMER DISTRICT POLICE CHIEF AT THE FOCUS OF THE INVESTIGATION One of the most striking figures in the investigation is İsmail Y., who was serving as the Narlıdere District Police Chief at the time of the incident and is currently stated to be the Bursa Regional Criminal Director.
According to the case file, it is alleged that İsmail Y. was contacted by the construction company owner Mehmet Münir Tanyer immediately after the incident and directed the suspects, despite having no official judicial authority.
The prosecutor's assessment also included claims that İsmail Y. came from Manisa to İzmir, was present at the crime scene, tampered with evidence at the scene, and directed the police officers on duty.
ALLEGATION OF "EVIDENCE DESTRUCTION" The findings in the case file stated that there were strong indications that camera footage, recording devices, and biological evidence at the scene were destroyed, tampered with, or relocated.
The prosecutor's office evaluated that İsmail Y. caused evidence losses by using his administrative influence over police personnel.
Additionally, it was entered into the case file that İsmail Y. held meetings with company owners at the construction site on the day of the incident and was in intensive communication with company officials before and after the incident, according to HTS records.
"FALSE TESTIMONY" CHARGE ALSO FILED It was noted that İsmail Y., who testified as a witness in the ongoing case at the İzmir 21st Heavy Penal Court, made statements contradicting the evidence in the investigation and thus also faces charges of "false testimony."
The prosecutor's office announced that legal proceedings are being conducted against İsmail Y. under the charges of "intentional killing," "destroying, concealing, or altering crime evidence," and "false testimony."
