TÜYEMDER President Mehti Şeren stated that the claims of fake dollars circulating on social media are unfounded and that finding counterfeit money under market conditions is nearly impossible. He expressed that they have only detected 2 counterfeit banknotes and emphasized that the atmosphere of panic negatively affects economic perception. DENIED THE FAKE DOLLAR SCANDALRecently, concerns about fake 50 and 100 dollar banknotes continue in many provinces, especially in Istanbul. The All Authorized Institutions and Currency Exchange Offices Association (TÜYEMDER) held a press conference regarding the issue in the Grand Bazaar. TÜYEMDER President Mehti Şeren stated that the news claiming there are 600 million dollars and 1 billion dollars in counterfeit money in the market is unfounded. Şeren said, "Let alone 600 million dollars or 1 billion dollars in counterfeit money, we have not even found 1,000 dollars in counterfeit money." "WE ONLY REACHED 2 BANKNOTES"Şeren stated, "The claims of fake dollars circulating in the public recently are largely exaggerated and do not reflect the truth. There is serious perception and disinformation being conducted on the country's economy, and the aim is to create a panic atmosphere among our people. As a sector representative, we have not encountered the counterfeit money in question as a result of our work with all members and in the field. The clearest evidence of the perception created is the banknote I am currently holding. As a result of our work over the past week, we have only been able to reach 2 counterfeit banknotes. These counterfeit bills have not passed through money counting machines. Other than this money, no counterfeit currency has been found in the Grand Bazaar," he stated. "THE CLAIM THAT THERE ARE 600 MILLION DOLLARS IS UNFOUNDED"Speaking about the claims in the media or on social media, Şeren said, "The news claiming that there are 600 million dollars or 1 billion dollars in counterfeit money is completely unfounded and aimed at disinformation. Let alone 600 million dollars or 1 billion dollars in counterfeit money, we have not even found 1,000 dollars in counterfeit money. Those who make these unfounded claims are people who cannot comprehend the volume of the figures they are discussing."
