The suspect in the fatal traffic accident that occurred in Eyüpsultan on March 1st in the state of Massachusetts, USA, Eylem Tok, has been decided to remain in custody. Judge Donald Cabell, who presided over the trial at the Boston John Joseph Moakley Courthouse, decided to continue the detention of Tok, who was arrested along with her son upon Turkey's complaint, until the next hearing. US HAD APPROVED EYLEM TOK'S EXTRADITION TO TURKEYThe US Department of State expressed its views on the extradition of Eylem Tok, the suspect in the fatal traffic accident in Istanbul, in a letter sent to the Massachusetts District Attorney's Office. In the letter signed by Tam Henen and sent to the District Attorney's Office, it was stated that "based on new unofficial information obtained from the Turkish government," Eylem Tok's extradition was deemed appropriate. The letter stated, "Note that the Department of State has determined that both crimes for which Eylem Tok was initially requested for extradition meet the requirements of the extradition agreement between the US and Turkey." It was stated in the letter that initially it was thought that Tok should be sent to court for the evaluation of "only the charge of protecting a criminal," but in the new information provided by Turkey, it was understood that crimes such as "destroying, concealing, or altering evidence" were also committed. The letter stated, "Therefore, I expect a new declaration to be signed when Turkey officially submits the new information to the Ministry (US Department of State) through diplomatic channels as required by the agreement, and I clearly state that I believe that both crimes in Turkey's original request are extraditable crimes within the scope of the agreement." THE ACCIDENT IN EYÜPSULTANIn Eyüpsultan, on March 1st, one of the 3 ATVs in motion broke down, and while the broken-down vehicle was being repaired on the side of the road, one of the two vehicles moving in the same direction collided with the 3 ATVs, resulting in the death of Oğuz Murat Aci among the 5 injured people. It was determined that the 17-year-old driver Timur Cihantimur, who caused the accident, and his mother Eylem Tok, who arrived at the accident scene, left the scene with her car and went to Egypt first and then to the USA. The temporary arrest request documents for the suspects were sent to the US authorities by the Ministry of Justice. Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç, in a post on his social media account, stated, "According to the information we received today from the US Department of Justice officials, Eylem Tok and Timur Cihantimur have been captured in the USA within the scope of our extradition request. As the Ministry, we closely follow the process."
