The first hearing of the case regarding the murder of Ferit Marhan (45) with a cleaver and a knife in the Canik district of Samsun was held. Gamze Sagamer (38), her son Aydın Sagamer (23), and her husband Dursun Ali Sagamer (39), who are being tried in custody in connection with the murder, accused each other in court. The defendant Gamze Sagamer alleged that after cutting the victim's throat with a knife, she struck him with a cleaver, and that her husband Dursun Ali Sagamer also struck the victim with a cleaver after arriving at the scene. Aydın Sagamer, however, claimed that his father struck him with the cleaver repeatedly. The prosecutor requested that the three defendants be sentenced separately to life imprisonment and that their detention continue.
At the first hearing of the case, held today at the Samsun 3rd Heavy Penal Court, the detained defendants Gamze Sagamer, Dursun Ali Sagamer, and Aydın Sagamer were present. Gamze Sagamer, who was stated to go to houses to clean, Dursun Ali Sagamer, who works as a street vendor, and their son Aydın Sagamer made their defense statements in court regarding how the incident took place.
HIS LIFELESS BODY WAS FOUND NEXT TO THE CAR
The incident occurred on the night of January 24, 2026, in the Düvecik Neighborhood of the Canik district, on the Samsun City Hospital Road route. Ferit Marhan's lifeless body was found next to a parked car with license plate 55 ARH 593. In the examination at the scene, it was determined that the car's left door was open and its engine was running. It was established that Marhan was lying on his back on the asphalt next to the left door, and that there were numerous cuts and stab wounds in the head, neck, and chest areas. Intense blood traces were found on the left front floor mat and on the bodywork surfaces of the car.
During searches in the vehicle, a bloody pocketknife, a black T-shirt, a wooden stick, muscle relaxant creams, pepper spray, a lighter, mobile phones, and bloody tissues were seized. After the murder, Gamze Sagamer went to the Irmak Martyr Davut Doğan Police Station with the cleaver and dagger she used in the incident and surrendered. Following Sagamer, who in her initial statement claimed she killed Ferit Marhan alone, the investigation alleged that her husband Dursun Ali Sagamer and her son Aydın Sagamer were also connected to the incident. The three suspects were arrested by the court they were brought before.
In the investigation, in which security camera footage, HTS communication records, and base station data were examined, the movements of the suspects before, during, and after the incident were investigated. In the autopsy report prepared by the Samsun Group Presidency of the Council of Forensic Medicine, it was stated that there were 3 incised-crushing wounds, 1 incised-penetrating wound, and 2 cut wounds on Marhan's body. It was reported that death occurred as a result of brain hemorrhage together with a skull fracture, spinal cord cut, major vessel injury, and blood aspiration.
HER HUSBAND: I DID NOT STAB HIM WITH A KNIFE
Dursun Ali Sagamer, who made a defense at the hearing, said that on the day of the incident he dropped off his wife Gamze and his son Aydın in the 200 Evler Neighborhood. Dursun Ali Sagamer recounted that his wife's mother was going on Umrah and that Gamze went to drop off a cake she had made for her mother, and said, 'I went to 200 Evler 15-20 minutes after dropping off the cake. Aydın called me and described the scene. He told me to come and pick him up. I heard Gamze's voice on the phone. She was saying, “I hit him.” I called them but could not find them. Aydın told me he was on City Hospital Road.'
The defendant Dursun Ali Sagamer, stating that when he went to the scene he opened the car door, said, 'The victim's arm and leg fell to the ground. He was covered in blood. Aydın said, “Dad, are you okay?” Gamze was on the right side. I grabbed her by the collar and asked, “Why did you do it?” She told me, “There are things you don't know.” I felt faint and almost fell over, I held on to the car. I had no contact with the victim. I did not stab him with a knife. Gamze's clothes were bloody. I was not at the scene when the victim was killed. I did not see which of them stabbed him. I took Gamze and left her next to the police station.'
Dursun Ali Sagamer, recounting that Ferit Marhan had called him about 20-25 days before the incident, claimed that Marhan said he was disturbed by gossip in the neighborhood about his wife. The defendant stated that he then asked his wife whether she had a relationship with Marhan, and used the following statements: 'She told me she had a romantic relationship with the victim, that he tortured her, and that they were together. I told her, “I will not be a husband to you,” and told her to go to her mother. I was not stopping by the house; I was staying at my mother's, my father's, and my relatives' places.'
MOTHER: I HELD THE KNIFE TO HIS THROAT
The defendant Gamze Sagamer, for her part, said that she had known Ferit Marhan in the same neighborhood for many years and that there was a romantic relationship between them. Gamze Sagamer, claiming that Marhan constantly threatened her, insulted her, and harassed her, stated that she wanted to end their relationship.
The defendant, claiming that about a month before the incident the victim called her husband and told him about their relationship, said, 'He did this by using a lot of violence against me. He would cut himself and send me images. He broke my house's window. On the day of the incident I went to my mother's house. Ferit followed me. He threw stones at my mother's window. He was very drunk, he tried to come into the house. I said, “Don't come, I am coming.” While I was leaving the neighborhood, Aydın saw me and asked, “Mom, where are you going?” Ferit and Aydın were friends.'
Gamze Sagamer, claiming that when they went to the scene Ferit Marhan made a threat against her, said, 'We went to the scene. He said, “Either you or I will get out of here alive.” We started arguing. I said let's take my son. We took my son and came back. Aydın and Ferit were sitting in front of the car, I was behind. Before I left the house, I had taken a knife with me. The cleaver was also in the car.'
Gamze Sagamer, claiming that Ferit Marhan humiliated her in front of her son Aydın, alleged that there were sexually explicit videos between them and that the victim tried to show these images to her son, and said, 'The victim was humiliating me by saying to Aydın, “I will show you what kind of woman your mother is.” At the moment he was about to show the videos on his phone to my son, I held the knife to his throat so he would not show them. His throat was cut. Then I struck him with the cleaver. Dursun Ali came. He opened the car door, the victim fell to the ground. The cleaver was in my hand. I struck him with the cleaver several times. Dursun Ali took the cleaver from my hand and began striking the victim. The victim was still alive while Dursun Ali was striking him with the cleaver.'
SON: MY FATHER STRUCK HIM MANY TIMES WITH THE CLEAVER
The defendant Aydın Sagamer also said that there had long been a romantic relationship between his mother and Ferit Marhan, and that his father Dursun Ali Sagamer was aware of this relationship.
Aydın Sagamer, recounting that on the day of the incident his father dropped him off in the 200 Evler Neighborhood by car, stated that while he was walking around the neighborhood, his mother called him to the scene. Aydın Sagamer, claiming that he was worried the police would search him because he had drugs on him, said, 'My mother and Ferit came to me by car. I got into the car. They were arguing with my mother. Ferit was harassing my mother. She and my mother moved to the back of the car. They were arguing and talking. The victim was trying to show me a video while he was inside the car. She was crying so that my mother wouldn't show it," he said.
Aydın Sagamer, who alleged that his mother cut Ferit Marhan's throat with a knife, claimed that his father came to the scene and began striking the victim with a cleaver.
Aydın Sagamer said, "My mother cut Ferit's throat with a knife. My father came. He took the cleaver from Brother Ferit's vehicle and started hitting him. He gave the cleaver to my mother too and told her to hit him. My mother cut his throat once with the knife; he hadn't died. My father hit him many times with the cleaver. After my father hit him with the cleaver, he gave the cleaver to my mother, and my mother hit him with the cleaver too."
Aydın Sagamer, who also said that the victim had supported him in the past, used the following statements: "The victim was more of a father to me than my father was. When my father threw me out onto the street, he would take me into his vehicle. In the meeting we had with my father, who was in prison, I did not talk about the house and the car being given to me. I only asked him to pay the lawyers' fees."
THE VICTIM'S FAMILY: THEY ARE LYING
The victim's father, Hamit Marhan, who took the floor at the hearing, stated that he did not believe the defendants' statements and rejected the claims that his son had used violence. Hamit Marhan said, "They are lying. They ate my son's money. They have been together for 15 years. My son wanted to leave her. My son did not use violence. I do not accept the statements the defendants gave in order to escape the crime."
The victim's son, Abdulkadir Marhan, also asked that the three defendants accused of killing his father be punished in the heaviest possible way.
The victim's wife, Özlem Marhan, said that she had watched some footage of her husband and knew what had happened. Özlem Marhan, who recounted that Ferit Marhan had called her before going on Umrah, claimed that her husband had told her he had been stabbed in the heart. Özlem Marhan said, "He said, 'On my way to Umrah, a knife came into my heart.' He did not say that Gamze had stabbed him. There are photographs of them with my husband at drinking tables, taken in a nightgown. I want the defendants to be punished in the heaviest possible way."
At the first hearing of the case, the prosecutor requested that the three defendants be sentenced separately to life imprisonment and that their detention be continued. The court decided to continue the detention of the defendants and granted time for the defendants' lawyers to prepare their defenses against the opinion. The hearing was postponed to a later date.
