The judicial procedures for 17 suspects detained in Istanbul as part of an investigation into betting and match-fixing allegations have been completed. The prosecutor's office requested arrest for 5 suspects, house arrest for 4, and a ban on international travel for 6. The criminal magistrates' court released 15 suspects under judicial control, while 2 others were released after giving statements to the prosecutor.
Under the coordination of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the procedures of 17 suspects detained in an operation conducted by the Istanbul Police Department's Financial Crimes Branch regarding betting and match-fixing allegations have been completed.
ARREST DEMAND FOR 5 OF THE 15 SUSPECTS
The suspects were taken to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan.
Among the suspects whose statements were taken by the prosecutor's office, Tolga Kırgız, Kerem Gürel, Ünsal Yamaner, Savaş Tatil, and Özgür Durşen were referred to the criminal judgeship of peace with an arrest demand.
Suspects Halil İbrahim Yavaş, Hüseyin Gözütok, Avni Akdemir, Maruf Güneş were sent to the judgeship with a request for "house arrest", while Ahmet Akçelik, Ali Gürsoy, Sezgin Özkan, Kemal Aydın, Ömer Çetin, and Barış Orhun Bilge were sent with a request for a judicial control measure of "travel ban abroad".
15 PEOPLE RELEASED UNDER JUDICIAL CONTROL
The criminal judgeship of peace decided to impose judicial control measures, including "house arrest" for 9 suspects and "travel ban abroad" for 6 suspects. Meanwhile, 2 suspects were released after their statements at the prosecutor's office.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Under the coordination of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, in the studies conducted by the Istanbul Police Department's Financial Crimes Branch regarding betting and match-fixing allegations, data from legal betting sites operating in Turkey, covering the years 2020-2026 and belonging to managers in football clubs, were obtained.
In the studies, individuals who had betting slips during their tenure as managers in their clubs were identified. After the prosecutor's office issued detention orders for 19 suspects found to have placed bets, a simultaneous operation was carried out in 10 provinces centered in Istanbul.
During the operation, 17 suspects were apprehended, while it was reported that search efforts for 2 suspects were ongoing.
The suspects for whom detention orders were issued and the clubs they were affiliated with during the period they are accused of betting are as follows: "Ali Sancak (Adana Demirspor AŞ), Savaş Tatil (Adana Demirspor AŞ), Hasan Turan Güven (Altayspor Kulübü), Barış Orhunbilge (Altınordu Futbol Kulübü), Kemal Aydın (Balıkesirspor Kulübü), Ünsal Yamaner (Bandırmaspor Kulübü), Tolga Kırgız (Beşiktaş Jimnastik Kulübü), Kerem Gürel (Beşiktaş Jimnastik Kulübü), Ahmet Akçelik (Beşiktaş Jimnastik Kulübü), Hüseyin Gözütok (Bodrum Spor Faaliyetleri AŞ), Murat Şabablı (Boluspor Kulübü), Ali Şen (Boluspor Kulübü), Halil İbrahim Yavaş (Boluspor Kulübü), Ali Gürsoy (Boluspor Kulübü), Avni Akdemir (Erzurumspor Futbol Kulübü), Maruf Güneş (Galatasaray), Özgür Durşen (Gençlerbirliği Spor Kulübü), Sezgin Özkan (Gençlerbirliği Spor Kulübü), and Ömer Çetin (Karaman Futbol Kulübü)."
