The first arrest decisions have been made regarding the incident in which the Böcek family of four, who came from Germany, fell ill and lost their lives after consuming food in Fatih, Istanbul. In this case, the mussel vendor, the Turkish delight seller, the kokoreç vendor, and the café owner have been arrested.
In Fatih, the number of detainees has risen to 11 with the capture of 3 more individuals related to the allegations of 'food poisoning', including 1 pest control officer and 2 hotel employees, following the death of 4 people, 2 of whom were children. The hotel, where the police completed their investigations, was sealed yesterday, while the suspects in custody, including mussel seller Yusuf D., cafe owner Fatih Mustafa O., kokoreç seller Ercan E., and Turkish delight seller Fatih T., were arrested by the court after their procedures at the police station today.
4 MEMBERS OF THE BOCEK FAMILY HAVE DIED
The Bocek family, who were staying at a hotel in Fatih, fell ill and were taken to the hospital a few days ago. Two children of the Bocek family died the day before yesterday, and their mother, Çiğdem Bocek, passed away yesterday morning. In the early hours of the morning, 2 people who were staying at the hotel where the Bocek family was located fell ill and were taken to the hospital. A third person accompanying the 2 individuals was also hospitalized due to a heart rhythm disorder.
4 SUSPECTS ARRESTED
After the incident, 11 suspects were detained, including the cafe owner where the Bocek family had dinner in Ortaköy, the mussel seller, the kokoreç seller, and the Turkish delight seller, as well as hotel employees and pest control company workers. The mussel seller Yusuf D., cafe owner Fatih Mustafa O., kokoreç seller Ercan E., and Turkish delight seller Fatih T. were sent to the courthouse after their procedures at the police station. The suspects were arrested by the Magistrate's Court and sent to prison.
Meanwhile, police teams visited the hotel yesterday for investigations. It was determined that pest control had been carried out at the hotel. Following this, teams from the Provincial Health Directorate and the Fatih District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry also conducted inspections at the hotel.
PEST CONTROL WAS CARRIED OUT ON THE GROUND FLOOR OF THE HOTEL
During the inspections, it was learned that information and documents regarding the materials used during pest control at the hotel were collected, and that the pest control was conducted on the ground floor of the hotel, in a single room. There is a suspicion that some of the substances used in the pest control may contain materials harmful to human health, which are used in agricultural areas. Samples taken will be analyzed. Additionally, it was learned that tourists were staying on the fourth floor of the hotel, while the family that lost their lives was on the first floor. The number of detainees related to the incident has risen to 11.
THE HOTEL HAS BEEN SEALED
Police teams have initiated an investigation at the hotel where the Bocek family stayed and where 3 new poisoning cases occurred. The investigation, which began early yesterday morning, continued until late hours. After the investigation, municipal teams arrived at the scene and sealed the hotel.
