In an incident in the Kumluca district, it was alleged that a patient who applied to a private hospital due to a sports injury was operated on the wrong knee. Following the incident, which was confirmed by a forensic medicine report, a compensation lawsuit of 2 million lira was filed.
The patient, who could not walk for a long time after the wrong knee surgery, lost his job and had to undergo two operations, was found justified by the forensic medicine report. While the legal battle continues, the compensation lawsuit process against the doctor is ongoing.
FIRST INTERVENTION AND SURGERY PROCESS
Özdemir, who was injured during sports in January 2024, applied to the emergency room of a state hospital. After his kneecap was relocated, he was told that surgery was needed. Receiving negative responses from different doctors, Özdemir was referred to a private hospital.
DECISION AND OPERATION AT PRIVATE HOSPITAL
Going to a private hospital on a friend's recommendation, Özdemir was examined by specialist doctor M.B.E. Trusting the doctor who said he could perform the surgery, the patient agreed to the operation. The surgery was carried out in March 2024.
SHOCKING TRUTH IN SURGERY
After the operation, Özdemir learned that he had been operated on his left knee instead of his injured right knee. The family informed the doctor. Initially denying the mistake, the doctor later accepted responsibility and signed a document stating he would cover the expenses.
FORENSIC MEDICINE REPORT REVEALED THE TRUTH
The wrong surgery was confirmed by a report from the Forensic Medicine Department of Necmettin Erbakan University Faculty of Medicine. Although a non-prosecution decision was given during the prosecutor's process, Özdemir continued the struggle.
COMPENSATION LAWSUIT OF 2 MILLION LIRA
Özdemir filed a compensation lawsuit of 2 million lira against doctor M.B.E. and those responsible. The lawsuit is based on claims of material and moral damages due to misdiagnosis and treatment.
DIFFICULT TREATMENT AND LIFE STRUGGLE
After the wrong surgery, Özdemir had to undergo operations on both knees and could not walk for a long time. He became dependent on his family, lost his job, and experienced serious psychological distress.
