Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, speaking about the traffic inspections to be implemented during the Eid al-Adha, stated, "These are the measures we have taken specifically for this holiday. With just days to go before Eid al-Adha, striking statements regarding the holiday traffic inspections came from Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya.
"3,000 UNDERCOVER PASSENGERS WILL WATCH THE DRIVERS"
Speaking in a television program, Yerlikaya announced the new application for the first time.
Announcing that 3,000 undercover passengers will be traveling on buses, Yerlikaya said, "These are the measures we have taken specifically for this holiday. There are 3,000 undercover passengers. There are companies that operate scheduled bus services. We are buying tickets from seats where the driver can easily be observed. 3,000 undercover passengers will be watching. Is the driver following the rules? Is he complying with the tachograph? They will take notes on these inside the bus. Meanwhile, they will also note whether the inspection is being conducted properly," he said.
"FOLLOW THE RULES, MAY THE END OF THE ROAD BE A HOLIDAY"
Yerlikaya also stated, "At the end of the journey, the driver takes the microphone and introduces himself. 'I am here for the undercover passenger inspection,' he says. If there are any faults, action is taken. Or he congratulates the driver and the passengers wearing seatbelts. There is a special type of inspection right next to him. We have traffic branches at the terminals. We have assigned police inspectors there. Those colleagues are conducting inspections at the traffic branches in the terminals. There are 1,485 mobile radars. They will conduct speed checks. Ten people die from excessive speed every day. We also have aerial inspections. A total of 6,339 hours of inspections will be conducted. I tell the citizens, 'Follow the rules, may the end of the road be a holiday,'" he expressed.
"68,829 POLICE AND GENDARMERIE ASSIGNED"
Interior Minister, who also stated, "The sole purpose of our traffic rules is to prevent accidents and avoid fatalities and injuries," said, "Holidays are joyful days for all of us. Most of the 32 million vehicles and many of the drivers suddenly hit the roads during peak times. In such an environment, adherence to the rules is more essential. We need to be on the field. Between May 30 and June 11, 17,645 teams with 33,943 personnel will be on duty. A total of 68,829 police and gendarmes have been assigned. While we celebrate the joy of the holiday, they will be on the roads. Thank goodness they are here," he concluded.
