INTERNET USAGE INCREASED BY 1.4 POINTS COMPARED TO THE PREVIOUS YEAR
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) shared the results of the 2026 Household Information Technologies Usage Survey. Accordingly, the internet usage rate among individuals aged 16-74 was 90.9% in 2025 and 92.3% in 2026. By gender, the internet usage rate in 2026 was observed as 94.8% for men and 89.9% for women.
RATE OF E-GOVERNMENT USERS REVEALED
The rate of individuals who used official authorities' websites and applications for private purposes and benefited from public services over the internet in the last 12 months was 76%. This rate was 82.7% for men and 69.4% for women. When examined by age group, the rate of individuals using e-government services was highest at 93% in the 25-34 age group and lowest at 31.3% in the 65-74 age group.
Among the purposes of individuals' use of e-government services, accessing personal information held about them by official authorities or public services ranked first with 65.6%. This was followed by making an appointment or reservation with public institutions or public services at 52.6%, and obtaining information from websites of public institutions at 45.7%.
RATES OF PURCHASING SERVICES OVER THE INTERNET
The rate of individuals purchasing or ordering goods or services over the internet for private use (e-commerce) was 55.7% in 2025 and 60% in 2026. By gender, the rate of purchasing or ordering goods or services over the internet was 63.4% for men and 56.6% for women. When examined by the time of the most recent purchase or order, it was seen that 48.3% of individuals purchased or ordered goods or services within the last 3 months (the first 3 months of 2026).
WHAT IS THE RATE OF ONLINE LEARNING ACTIVITIES?
The rate of individuals who carried out learning activities over the internet for educational, professional, or private purposes in the last 3 months increased by 5.2 points compared to the previous year, reaching 22.9% in 2026. This rate was observed as 22.4% for men and 23.5% for women.
WHAT PERCENTAGE OF INDIVIDUALS USE WHATSAPP?
The social media and messaging applications used by individuals were WhatsApp with 90.0%, YouTube with 77.6%, and Instagram with 71.1%, respectively. When the most used social media and messaging applications were examined by gender, it was observed that men used WhatsApp the most with 92.5%, YouTube with 80.1%, and Instagram with 71.9%, while women used WhatsApp with 87.6%, YouTube with 75.0%, and Instagram with 70.2%.
RATE OF THOSE USING INTERNET-CONNECTED TV
It was observed that the types of internet-connected systems and devices used by individuals using the internet were internet-connected TV with 62.0%, internet-connected home appliances such as robot vacuums, refrigerators, ovens, and coffee machines with 18.6%, and smart watches, internet-connected sports/resistance bands, glasses or headphones, security tracking devices, internet-connected accessories, and internet-connected clothing or shoes with 16.7%.
IS PRICE IMPORTANT WHEN BUYING A MOBILE PHONE OR COMPUTER?
It was observed that the features considered important by individuals who used the internet in the last 3 months when purchasing a mobile phone, smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer were price with 89.3%, hardware features with 74.7%, the device's energy efficiency with 69.9%, and brand, design, or size with 69.5%.
