US President Donald Trump's decision to indefinitely extend the ceasefire with Iran has ignited the fuse of a new tension in the Middle East, rather than lowering the tension. While the Washington administration declared its aim to gain time for negotiations, the Tehran administration interpreted the decision as "preparations for a new attack."
TRUMP: IT WILL CONTINUE UNTIL NEGOTIATIONS ARE CONCLUDED
Trump announced that the ceasefire has been extended indefinitely until Iran presents a ceasefire proposal and the talks are concluded. Stating that they will maintain the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, Trump also instructed the military to be ready in all aspects. Emphasizing Pakistan's influence in the ceasefire decision, Trump was also thanked by Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
IRAN: "THIS IS PREPARATION FOR AN ATTACK"
From the Iranian front, harsh statements came one after another. Mehdi Mohammadi, advisor to Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, evaluated the extension of the ceasefire as "gaining time for a new attack on Iran." Mohammadi said, "The continuation of the Hormuz blockade is no different from bombardment; a military response is necessary."
Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi also stated that the blockade targeting ports means war, expressing that this is a violation of the ceasefire. Mohammadi further argued that the US has lost the war and that the losing side cannot set the conditions.
CONDITION FOR NEGOTIATION: LIFT THE HORMUZ BLOCKADE
The Iranian Ambassador to the United Nations emphasized that the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz must be lifted for a return to the negotiation process. The Tehran administration is not warm to returning to the table without this condition being met.
A HISTORIC REBUKE FROM THE REVOLUTIONARY GUARDS
The Iranian Revolutionary Guards sent a clear warning to the US. In the statement, it was said, "Our finger is on the trigger; if there is an attack, we will hit predetermined targets harder." The statement also emphasized that if conflicts resume, crushing blows will be dealt to the enemy.
The Revolutionary Guards also sent a message to Gulf countries, stating that if US bases are used to attack Iran, the oil production of these countries will be targeted.

Mutual statements from the parties have increased question marks about how sustainable the ceasefire is on the ground. While diplomatic traffic continues, the possibility of military tension escalating again in the region is strengthening.
