The incident occurred after Riyadh had been targeted by Iranian missile and drone attacks in recent days. Saudi Arabia confirmed over the weekend that Iran's attacks hit both the capital and the Eastern Province, where significant oil infrastructure is located.
FIRST STATEMENT FROM TRUMP
U.S. President Donald Trump stated in an interview with NewsNation that there would be retaliation in response to the attack on the embassy in Riyadh. When asked what the retaliation would be, Trump replied, "You'll find out soon." He expressed that military intervention would not be necessary, saying, "We are causing them great harm. We are inflicting tremendous damage on them."
"WE ARE VERY CLOSE TO THE TARGET"
Trump stated that reaching their targets in Iran is just a matter of time, saying, "I know a lot, and when we reach our target, I will definitely understand it. We are very close to our target. We are inflicting very large damage, we are pushing them back significantly." The President referred to the damage done to nuclear weapons and missiles, stating that the operations were "earlier than planned."
"PART OF THIS WAR"
When asked who is currently controlling Iran, Trump replied, "You'll find out very soon." When asked if he was concerned about attacks on U.S. facilities or American soil, he said, "No, this is part of the war. Whether people like it or not, this is part of the war, that's the situation."
IRAN IS ATTACKING U.S. BASES IN THE GULF
The attacks are part of Iran's broader retaliation following coordinated attacks by the U.S. and Israel against Iran that began on Saturday. Since then, Iran has continued to strike regional targets, including U.S. military bases in Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, and the UAE, with missiles and drones.
U.S.-ISRAEL ATTACKS ON IRAN
Israel and the U.S. launched a military attack on Iran on February 28 while negotiations were ongoing between the Tehran and Washington administrations.
Iran responded with attacks on targets it identified in several regional countries, including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain, where U.S. bases are located, in addition to Israel.
In the U.S.-Israel attacks, Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and many high-ranking officials were killed.
The Iranian Red Crescent announced that 555 people had lost their lives and 747 had been injured in the bombings targeting the country.
