Esmail Kosari, a lawmaker and Iran's former Revolutionary Guards Corps commander, has confirmed the July 1 explosion at the Malik Ashtar military base in Tehran, in a statement to local media.
The attack was carried out by the members of the Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO), considered a terror group in the country, Kosari told the Iranian website Khabar Online, adding: "Outsider agents do not carry out such operations since our security forces have them under surveillance. Instead, they use their internal agents."
He also added that the attack was carried out using two hand-made explosives.
Video footage of repeated explosions in the Malik Ashtar barracks of the Revolutionary Guards Army in Tehran were featured on social media.
While the MKO claimed responsibility for the attack, Iranian officials did not comment on the matter.
