COFFINS WRAPPED IN FLAGS WERE LINED UP SIDE BY SIDE

In the images shared from the ceremony site, a large number of coffins placed in a wide hangar drew attention. It was observed that photos of the deceased sailors were placed on top of the coffins, each wrapped in the Iranian flag. Military and civilian officials paid their respects at the heads of the coffins, while a sorrowful atmosphere prevailed at the ceremony.

In the incident that occurred on March 4, 2026, off the coast of Sri Lanka, the IRIS Dena frigate, which had approximately 180 personnel on board, was sunk by a torpedo from a U.S. Navy submarine. It was reported that at least 87 Iranian sailors lost their lives as a result of the attack.

THE BODIES WERE DELIVERED TO IRAN

After the attack, search and rescue operations initiated off the coast of Sri Lanka led to the recovery of many sailors' lifeless bodies. Officials announced that the bodies of 84 sailors were delivered to Iranian authorities after official procedures.

During the ceremony held in Iran, the sailors who lost their lives were remembered one last time, and it is expected that the bodies will later be delivered to their families for burial in their hometowns.
