In the Gezi Park investigation, the house arrest of journalist İsmail Saymaz has been lifted. Instead of house arrest, he is now required to report to the police station once a week and is subject to a travel ban.
As part of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, journalist İsmail Saymaz was detained on March 19. Saymaz was detained on charges of "aiding and abetting an attempt to overthrow the government of the Republic of Turkey," and on March 20, after his statement to the prosecutor's office, the court ruled for him to be placed under house arrest.
INDICTMENT PREPARED
In a statement made by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was noted that Saymaz had "conversations with individuals involved in the establishment of a television channel he planned to set up for the purpose of preparing the website of Osman Kavala, who was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment in the Gezi Park case, and disseminating actions through the press." It was expressed that during the investigation, Saymaz had "intense contact with the Gezi Park defendants Mehmet Osman Kavala, Şerafettin Can Atalay, Çiğdem Mater Utku, and Ayşe Mücella Yapıcı, made numerous posts on social media regarding the events, and attempted to incite citizens against law enforcement by providing information that was inconsistent with the truth."
WILL GIVE STATEMENTS TO THE POLICE ONCE A WEEK
The house arrest decision given for İsmail Saymaz was lifted after 56 days. The judicial control condition imposed on Saymaz was changed to reporting to the police station once a week and a ban on leaving the country.
