A fifth wave of corruption operations targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) has been launched. As part of the operation, detention orders have been issued for 47 individuals, including Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün, Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe, Avcılar Mayor Utku Caner Çaykara, CHP Central Executive Board member Baki Aydöner, and former CHP MP Aykut Erdoğdu. Thirty people have been apprehended.
According to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the corruption investigation against suspects, including Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was suspended from his position as the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) following his arrest, is ongoing for charges of "being a leader of a criminal organization," "being a member of a criminal organization," "extortion," "bribery," "qualified fraud," "illegally obtaining personal data," and "interfering with a tender."
ARREST WARRANT ISSUED FOR 47 PEOPLE
In the 5th operation of the investigation launched on March 19, an arrest warrant was issued for 47 people under 4 separate investigations.
3 MAYORS AND A CHP PM MEMBER ARE ALSO ON THE LIST
Those who have been issued arrest warrants include Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün, Avcılar Mayor Utku Caner Çaykara, Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe, IMM Subsidiary ISFALT Director Burak Korzay, CHP PM member Baki Aydöner, and former CHP MP Aykut Erdoğdu. Searches and arrests are being conducted at homes as part of the investigation.
